Bummer Alert
Alexi Laiho of CHILDREN OF BODOM Hospitalized
Well this is no fun! Children of Bodom frontman Alexi Laiho spent the last few days in the hospital as a result of severe stomach pains. This resulted in the band having to cancel shows in Norway and Sweden as the Finnish frontman needed to spend some time in the hospital for diagnosis. No word on what caused the pains. The band released this official statement: (more…)

Boo! REVOCATION, VILDHJARTA, DIRGE WITHIN, And FORGED IN FLAME Drop Off Shockwave Festival
When I read the announcement for the Shockwave Festival, I was pretty excited about the number of awesome supporting bands. The bad news is that four of the them have dropped off the bill for reasons unknown. Fear Factory posted an updated tour flyer for the festival, which doesn't feature either Dirge Within or Forged In Flame. Metal Insider is also reporting that organizers have confirmed to them that Revocation and Vildhjarta have dropped off the tour as well. (more…)
DEATH TO ALL Atlanta & Dallas Shows Postponed
How is this happening? Looks like low ticket sales, among other issues, have caused the promoters of Death To All to put the final two dates of the tour, in Atlanta and Dallas on hold for the time being. Death To All, as we've written about before, will feature former members of Death getting on stage and paying tribute to the late frontman of the band, Chuck Schuldiner. Here is the official statement on the postponement: (more…)

Jack Osbourne Diagnosed With Multiple Sclerosis
Not to bum anyone out on a Monday, but Jack Osbourne has multiple sclerosis. He was diagnosed back in April, just two weeks after his daughter Pearl was born according to People. Ozzy and Sharon announced the news in Sunday's edition of the gossip rag. Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory disease that affects the central nervous system. It's a pretty nasty disease which can end up leaving the person paralyzed.

DEFTONES' Chi Cheng Hospitalized With Pneumonia
Original Deftones bassist Chi Cheng hasn't had it easy since his 2008 car accident, which left him in the partially conscious state that he is in now. Sadly, it gets worse. He was hospitalized this past Thursday after being diagnosed with pneumonia. While his blood pressure and oxygen levels were low initially, the Deftones bassist seems to be doing better according to updates on the OneLoveForChi.com website. Here's the latest update from his mother: (more…)

ANIMALS AS LEADERS' Gear Stolen; Band Asks Fans To Keep A Lookout
Some shitty news to kick off the week. Animals As Leaders, fresh off their bullshit court date, returned home from their tour with Thrice to find that they had been robbed. All of their gear that they didn't bring with them (their amps, their one-of-a-kind guitars) was gone. The band is asking for fans to keep a lookout at pawn shops and Ebay for the gear. They have created this photo gallery with photos of the stolen items. Here is the message the band sent out to their fans regarding the issue: (more…)

HIGH ON FIRE Drops Off Mayhem Fest; Matt Pike Checks Into Rehab
It appears Matt Pike is having a problem with alcoholism. Last Thursday, Sleep canceled a performance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona due to health reasons involving Pike. He seemed to be okay though when Frank filmed Sleep performing at the Scion Rock Festival last weekend, but it appears he is not okay at all.
High On Fire announced late last night that they would be pulling out of this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival due to Pike getting "treatment for alcohol rehabilitation". Here's the statement from the press release: (more…)

Sean Reinert Plans To Tour On The DEATH TO ALL Tour Even Though He's Hurt
Injuries happen, and it always seems like the worst time. Sean Reinert, who drummed on Death's influential Human album, has ruptured his achilles tendon during his training for the DEATH TO ALL tour. According to the blog post on the DEATH TO ALL website, Reinert has completed the required surgery, and has started his rehabilitation efforts. Reinert, who drums for Cynic, will still remain on the tour, but it's not quite certain what his abilities will be. Luckily enough, Gene Hoglan and Danny Walker (from Intronaut / Exhumed) will still be on the tour to help out. Richard Christy, Death's last drummer, will also be making appearances, but probably not many due to his radio commitments. Here is what Sean had to say about the injury: (more…)

ABSU Forced To Cancel Chaos In Tejas Performance
Absu, are regrettably being forced to cancel their performance at this weekend's Chaos In Tejas where the band was scheduled to headline the show at Red 7 on Saturday. After playing the opening night of this year's Maryland Deathfest, Absu's drummer and vocalist, Proscriptor had to rush back to Texas due to a knee infection. Proscriptor will undergo two surgeries and barring any setbacks, should be back to full health by mid June just in time for a tour throughout North and South America later this summer. The tour has not been officially announced but the band intends to formally announce the run of dates in the weeks ahead.

Rob Arnold Is Over Touring; SIX FEET UNDER Find Replacement Guitarist
Here's something we've seen happen all the time. Bands, and band members in specific are over the touring grind. Riding in smelly vans, having five dollars a day for food and nowhere to shower can take a toll on anybody. Usually, those band members just quit music all-together and get a real job. Rob Arnold though, gets to have his cake, and eat it too.

ULCERATE Get Their Gear Stolen During First US Tour, Thanks A Lot America!
I was unable to attend Ulcerate's New York show this weekend due to some prior commitments, but by all accounts from friends who went, it was an intense show. Sadly, that's not what this post is about… this post is about how after the NYC show, while Ulcerate were all tucked in and sleeping, the band's van got robbed on the mean streets of NYC. From their Facebook page: (more…)

URGEHAL Founding Member TRONDR NEFAS Dead At 35
Fuck! First we lost Slavia vocalist Jonas Christiansen to cancer last November, and now reports are out, which have been confirmed by Season of Mist, that Urgehal's Trond "Trondr Nefas" Bråthen has died at the age of 35. No official press report has been released, so cause of death is still unknown. All I know is we have lost two brilliant black metallers way too early. You are not supposed to die in your 30s.
Urgehal was formed by Trondr Nefas and Enzifer in Hønefoss, Norway during the hey-day of black metal back in 1992. The band released six full lengths and several EPs, splits, and compilations during Nefas' career. (more…)

RIP Adam "MCA" Yauch of The BEASTIE BOYS
Note from Rob: Without reverting to too many cliches, the music world is reeling today at the loss of Adam Yauch, more famously known as MCA. While the Beastie Boys were not exactly a metal band, their unique output transcended genres. The group was larger than life yet they seemed like very attainable personalities. I asked Sid, one of the Livecast co-hosts, and the biggest Beastie fan I know to write up a little something in tribute to Yauch. This is what he sent over:
When I was seven, I sang along to "Fight for Your Right" with my friends at school and was amazed that the Brooklyn in "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" was the same one I lived in. (more…)

SLAYER Issue Update On Jeff Hanneman's Health Post-Spider Bite
Finally, an excuse to use my amazing Jeff Hanneman spider bite photoshop again! You may recall that last year, the Slayer guitarist suffered a pretty gnarly spider bite that sidelined him for over a year. Slayer have quite a few shows planned this summer, including co-headlining Mayhem Fest and today the band released a statement explaining Jeff's health and his status for the tours: (more…)
