While on a break between tours supporting Turisas' fourth full length album, Turisas2013, Mathias 'Warlord' Nygard sits down and records a break down of the new album, going through track-by-track and explaining the inspirations, meanings, and process behind each song. Having faced a lot of criticism about the new album, Mathias felt the need to explain each track to give Turisas fans, who might not appreciate how much the band's sound has changed throughout the years, a deeper look into the album. Mathias does a fantastic job breaking everything down, explaining the Finnish, sort of, tango origins of "Ten More Miles" and how "We Ride Together" turned from a jumble of melodies to the album's epic finale with the help of guitarist Jussi Wickstrom, and more.
Reiterating some points said in an interview with Chicago's Metal Oxide, Mathias explains that the album was not meant to reflect either the past or the future of the band, but the present. In my own review of the album, I come to similar conclusions about Turisas2013, that songs are meant to be taken on their own, to inspire on their own terms, not follow a theme steeped in a specific tale from history. Each song is special and they add up to make a great album.
