Death metal in its most righteous form is vile. It seeps from speakers with caustic menace to degrade one's psyche. The genre's greats—say Autopsy or Incantation in this case—always push this notion to the very extreme. Their efforts undoubtedly find a way to infect a newer generation of bands looking to make death metal. One such effort showing much promise very early on is Noose Rot. The trio boasts a very adept roster. Adam Clemans (vocals) is also in Wolvhammer and Skeletonwitch. Matt Arrebollo (drums) spends time in Gatecreeper as well. Jim Adolphson (guitars/bass) plays in Boson and Hive. It simply makes sense this group's debut EP, The Creeping Unknown, is as vicious as "Worship the Crypt" suggests.

"Worship the Crypt," the second of four songs on the new EP, is a fiery four minutes of death metal. A pulsing mid-tempo march highlights much of the track. Clemans' reverb-soaked growl during Arrebollo's rolls and Adolphson's riffs create a bit of a cavernous tone at times. Yet, the pace this song carries feels very Severed Survival. It is certainly an intriguing combination of styles. One that will surely make many listeners into fans.

Stream "Worship the Crypt" now. Be sure to preorder the cassette or digital copy from Sentient Ruin Laboratories ahead of The Creeping Unknown's February 16 release date. Also, check out another Noose Rot song that Decibel Magazine premiered here.
