AXIS OF DESPAIR "Lockdown" Listeners With Their Searing Swedish Grind

The minds behind Axis of Despair are a "Who's Who" of Swedish death metal and grind musicians. Born from current and former members of Nasum, Coldworker, and Infanticide, the Örebro quartet release their debut full-length album later this month. It's called Contempt For Man and it packs 20 tracks into its 30-minute runtime. With the given pedigree of the band's members, there is certainly no shortage of mind-numbing ferociousness.

One of the tracks from the album, "Lockdown," —which Metal Injection is streaming today—runs roughly 100 seconds; a rather quick dose of buzzing guitars and blasting drums. It builds off a strong hook and a menacing groove. While only a small sample of Axis of Despair's newest effort, it shows a promising forecast for the rest of Contempt For Man. The band spoke more about the blistering, new track to Metal Injection in a statement.

"While the title is a nod to fellow grinders Lock Up, the music centers around an idea of doing a chorus riff with clear notes that move around, thus creating a hook that makes ”Lockdown” stand out on the album. This is a quite good slice of Axis of Despair’s type of grindcore. While "Lockdown" has its share of drive and aggression, it also has catchiness and a certain groove that we really like."
