Wow, I can't believe it's been 25 years since original Metallica bassist, and seemingly cool-as-fuck dude Cliff Burton died in that tragic bus accident when their bus skidded off the road in the south of Sweden. Cliff was only 24 years old. Often since then, many have wondered what would have happened to Metallica, and music in general if Cliff was still alive today. While live-blogging the Big 4 show in NYC, I joked:
While Orion plays, let’s take a moment to remember the greatness that was Cliff Burton, and to think, if he was still alive today…. he would’ve quit Metallica a long time ago.
I was kidding, of course. Who knows how Cliff would've ended up? Maybe, the Metallica we see today wouldn't be too different had Cliff still been alive. He might've been right there with them, chopping off his locks, and then later confirming that his lifestyle does indeed determine his deathstyle.
