PYRRHON Pulls Off A Great Cover of DEATH's "Crystal Mountain"

INSIDE CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN, EVIL TAKES ITS FORM.

New York-based Pyrrhon plays a very brash and sometimes improvised brand of technical and experimental death metal. They released an absolutely killer album back in the spring of 2014 called The Mother of Virtues and their Growth Without End EP last year to bring themselves into a larger spotlight within the underground metal community. 2016 thus far has seen the quartet gear up for a tour with grind band, Immortal Bird, and release a new EP last week entitled Running Out of Skin.

This new EP is four songs and features three new songs (two of which are improvised in-studio) and a fourth track that is a rather crushing cover of Death's "Crystal Mountain" from their 1995 album, SymbolicRunning Out of Skin was produced by Colin Marston, of Krallice and Gorguts fame, in his Menegroth: The Thousand Caves studio. Marston's production wizardry combined with Pyrrhon's dizzying technical abilities create a delicious recipe for death metal. Doug Moore's vocals sit on a lower register than the late, great Chuck Schuldiner's. Dylan DiLella, Erik Malave, and Alex Cohen (now replaced by Steve Schwegler) also weave some jazzy, improvised segments into "Crystal Mountain", creating their own version of the classic song.

You can hear it now and compare it to the original version of the song below! If you want to buy their new EP, it can be done on their Bandcamp. Make sure to check out Pyrrhon on tour as well!
