PLAGUEWIELDER Are Back and "Writhing In Mental Torment"

The Ohio black/sludge band returns with their first new music in two years.

The Ohio black/sludge band returns with their first new music in two years.

It has been quite some time since the world heard from Ohio's Plaguewielder. The group, formed by Bryce Seditz, released their first full-length album in 2015. Their debut, Succumb to the Ash, brought a sinister sludge laced in sorrow and noise. Yet, following the album, came extended radio silence. Lineups shuffled and sound morphed and finally, news came from the Plaguewielder camp that comes in the form of a new single called "Writhing in Mental Torment".

For those that have followed the band, you will notice the material is a bit of a switch from the full-length. "Writhing in Mental Torment" takes on more of a Black 'n' Roll shape. It has touches of MGŁA that coalesce with noise rock motifs and ultimately culminates in over four minutes of acerbic metal. Seditz's howls ring of despair and unfathomable torment, hence picking up where their prior release thematically left off. It threads a commonality between the band's past and its current state. Hopefully, this track is a segue into more music from Plaguewielder in the not-to-distant future.
