Australian Orchestral Death Doom isn't exactly a genre tag you see floating around a whole bunch these days. Hell, I don't think it's a genre tag that I've ever seen casually thrown around. Rise Of Avernus make me want more of it.

Their new record Eigengrau is a masterfully composed release that shows a young band full of promise. It's the sort of record that can't help but to fascinated and has the potential to keep drawing you back, even as they struggle with many of the limitations of younger groups. There is a breadth to this album that suggests, to me at least, that it could really appeal to both underground freaks and fans of the more mainstream stuff. The sheer bombast and the willingness to balance it all on a knifes edge serves to make Rise Of Avernus a band to watch as they shake rattle and roll their way into your heart.

The band had this to say:

Grandiosity, misery, beauty, release, destruction, connection. Eigengrau is the result of exploring our perceptions of darkness. We hope you enjoy it.

Jam it now!

Orchestral death doom isn't something we get to hear a lot of these days. Fortunately Rise Of Avernus do the subgenre justice!
