Why, Marty Friedman? Why?!

Remember yesterday when we posted that amazing story about Dave Mustaine wanting back in to Metallica? Great stuff. During that same interview, Mustaine was asked if he would ever consider re-hiring long time Megadeth shredder Marty Friedman (who performed on seminal Mega-albums and this is what Mustaine said:

"Well, first off, he's not welcome. I mean, it's not that he's not welcome, it's just that there's no position for him. And Marty's not as good as Chris [Broderick, current MEGADETH guitarist] is, second off. And Marty wanted to be a pop guitar player. He left to join a girl in a band in Japan. . . [The MEGADETH lineup featuring Friedman and drummer Nick Menza] wasn't the most important lineup anyways. The lineup that we have right now has achieved more than those guys ever did. If you think about it, the groundwork, the building the band back up from nothing… Marty and Nick got in the band when the band was already huge."

So there's that. And, you know what… after seeing what Marty is up to right now, I pretty much have to agree with Dave. You may remember, last year we posted about a Japanese Fanta promotion, where they created a pop band named Fanta that featured Friedman and other Japanese celebrities. Well, the band has just posted their first music video and get ready to be tortured…

I'm hard-pressed to find one positive thing to say about this video. It's…just…so…painful. Marty, why are you doing this? Why can't you be the shredder we all remember you to be? WHY MARTY?? WHYYYYY?!?

    It doesn't shock me really, didn't Dave say when Marty joined Megadeth he had multi colored hair or some such nonsense… he made him go through metal 101 or something before he could actually join the band? I think this info might be remembered from one of the little snippets of info on RockBand, on the loading screen.. I can't remember.

    it does suck to see Marty doing shit like this but i dont think Dave should be so disrespectful to Marty. Marty played on some of Megadeth's best albums and really contributed to the band. Rust in Peace??? yeah, that album wouldn't be nearly as godly as it is today if it weren't for Marty and Nick. Dave even admits in his autobiography that when Marty joined, it was the first time in forever that he felt that his skills as a guitar player weren't as good as Friedman's… still, Marty has no excuse to be this laaaaame. why Marty?

    This video is great because i'm not a fan of Megadeth and I can laugh. Peace Sells……..and so does Fanta with quirky Japanese characters.

    it's NO SECRET that Marty is a celebrity in Japan, he has appeared in various guitar rock TV shows and when Fanta decided to put a "super group" together for an advert campaign who did they call? it's all about money and marketing, I see nothing wrong with it. I worshiped dave for some 17 years of my life but now I see that every time he opens his mouth about Marty and Nick is to say something derogatory and smart. So dave, I know you're a christian but you sure don't show any compassion towards other humans that may not be at the same level of social status or intellect as yourself. One more thing Fuck you!!!!!!
