The international effort of Down Among the Dead Men returns this week with their third full-length album, ..And You Will Obey Me. The nostalgic band combines death metal and crust punk into a formula that harkens to Bolt Thrower or Benediction. These are seemingly easy comparisons considering Dave Ingram, a former vocalist for both bands, is part of the lineup. Still, it's his and Rogga Johansson's knack for this classic sound that makes their band's newest album such a treat.
Johansson is in a multitude of projects but recently saw a new album from Paganizer and others over the past year. Death metal runs through the duo's veins. For this record, session musicians Kjetil Lynghaug (guitars) and Erik R. Bevenrud (drums) joined the ranks to make this blast from the past a reality. The new album packs 10 songs into roughly 3o minutes of runtime, creating swift, exacting blows of crusted death metal.
