Get To Know ANIMALS AS LEADERS' Tosin Abasi

TosinAbasiAnimalsAsLeadersThrashHits

During one of many late night internet spirals, I came across this gem of a video featuring Animals As Leaders main man, Tosin Abasi, talking shop. I'm not a guitar player so I certainly didn't expect to get much from a video meant to plug the Atlanta Institute of Music's guitar course, but it turned out to be a fantastic interview clip with lots of insight and stories behind Abasi's life, told by the man himself. He touches on subjects like how he got where he is today, the importance of understanding your instrument to it's fullest potential, knowing your limits, technical playing in today's music, endorsements, and even how he's handling his own success. It's definitely worth the watch for any fan of AAL and/or career oriented musicians. (more…)

Rare SEPULTURA Footage From 1996 Surfaces

SepulturaItsari

I can still remember all the noise surrounding the release of Sepultura's Roots like it were yesterday. Although Chaos A.D. proved the band was undergoing an evolution almost everyone seemed to enjoy, it was Roots that ultimately made waves that would divide the band and their fans in more ways than one. Regardless of your thoughts concerning the band's NU direction, the album captivated the metal world with its delivery and indigenous influence. (more…)

Black Metal History Month Lists

10 Black Metal Stage Name Origins

BlackMetalStageNameOrigins

Following my post on the origins of 25 Heavy Metal Stage Names, I thought what better sub-genre to focus the next iteration of the column on than black metal? It is after all the genre where stage names are taken so seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if some of these musician's mothers were given a pseudonym at some point.

Shroud in mystery, and the nature of their own seriousness, most black metal stage name origin stories are still kept secret. Although there are many more to dig through, I have compiled 10 for this year's Black Metal History Month. In this piece we will reveal the identities of members from bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Mayhem, Emperor, Burzum and more. (more…)

MUSE Contributes To Black Metal History Month

Beachmetal

Although there aren't many, hard-rock-powerhouse Muse, is one commercial non-metal band I've been quite fond of since their early beginnings. Having seen them live many times, I know they're just as fond of extreme metal too. They must have caught wind that Metal Injection was celebrating Black Metal History Month, because their latest music video release is all about a super grim black metal wedding… at the beach. I Ain't Into No GHOST

Ghost-buster

While that particular headline is not true for me, as I've been a fan of the band for some time, I did catch a few of my metal bros who are not fond of the band passing this around the internet calling themselves Ghostbusters. Honestly, even as a fan I had a good laugh and couldn't help but wonder how cool of a shirt this would make. I guess everyone wins!

For those of you who do like Ghost, I hope you're still jamming on their new track "Secular Haze" or their killer ABBA cover. The word on the street is the band will be doing heavy touring in the spring.

The New HATEFORM Track On Repeat All Damn Day

Hateform-600x600

My bro Vince over at MetalSucks tipped me off that Hateform will release a new record this year, and I'd love the new track that has surfaced.

Well shit man, love isn't the word. I been playing this track several times a day now and can't seem to get enough. Featuring two ex-members of my melo-death faves Mors Principium Est, these guys are another shining example of the genre done right! Dynamic parts without the cheesy bullshit, technical playing without masturbatory wankery, and good 'ol melodic song writing that rips your face off, what more can you ask for? (more…)

Kvelertak

Roadrunner Records have just proudly announced the signing of Norwegian party rockers Kvelertak to their roster. The band will be releasing their sophomore album Meir (the Norwegian word for "more") on March 26, 2013 once again produced by Converge's Kurt Ballou.

I've been rocking out and watching this band grow for years now, and it is truly an exciting thing to witness deserving artists move up like this. We're not the only people stoked about this announcement however, Senior VP of A&R at Roadrunner Records had this to say about the signing (more…)
