THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN Take Down San Francisco
This past Saturday, The Dillinger Escape Plan played a free show in San Francisco, CA, as part of the "Defend Your Homefront Rally," a promotional tie-in with the upcoming video game, Homefront. After the show, frontman Greg Puciato tweeted "Well that was fucking killer. San Fran you always go hard. Felt like the sequel to the virgin megastore show in 05. See you in June." Well, I was at the Virgin Megastore show (bootlegging the whole thing, thank you very much) and it was indeed insane, so I rushed to the Youtubes to see if anybody bootlegged this show. Luckily there was, and the clip above is enough to assure me this was an insane show. ThePRP speculates the band will most likely record the cover of Public Enemy's "Fight The Power" as part of the Homefront soundtrack which already has confirmed covers from the likes of As I Lay Dying, The Acacia Strain, Misery Signals, Periphery and The Ghost Inside.
I cannot wait to see them with the Deftones. Here are more clips from that show: (more…)

A/V Roundup: New music from DEVIN TOWNSEND, ALL SHALL PERISH, TRAP THEM, THE HUMAN ABSTRACT, WORMROT, AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED, CHIMAIRA, MASTODON
I was away from the computer for a few days and all this awesome new music pops up! So, if ever there was a time for an A/V Roundup, now would be the time. Here is the latest on free new music on the interwebs:
SIN-atra – New York, New York feat. Devin Townsend by Eagle Rock Entertainment
First up, I am completely enamored with this amazing cover of Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" by Devin Townsend. It is part of Sin-atra, a rock cover compilation of classic Sinatra tunes out March 29th on Eagle Rock.
Fuck YES! There is a new All Shall Perish track out. We are totally bros with the NoCal dudes and we're so pumped to finally hear new output from them. You can check out the track "Divine Illusion" on their Facebook page (all you need to do is "like" the band to hear it). The band is gearing up to appear on Mayhem Fest all Summer.
Trap Them's excellent new album, Darker Handcraft is now available for streaming in it's entirety over at NPR. The album, which was produced by Kurt Ballou (who we recently profiled), sounds like Converge worship at it's finest, and I mean that as a total compliment. The album hits stores March 15th.
Speaking of album streams, The Human Abstract shred masterpiece, Digital Veil is now streaming in full as well. The album comes out tomorrow!
Didja know there is another new Wormrot track out in the wild? You can stream it below, it's called "Spot A Pathetic" and the band shot a live music video for the track this weekend. The band's new album, Dirge hits stores May 3rd.
Not to be out-grinded, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, you know, Scott Hull's other grind band, has released two tracks on their Facebook page which will see their official release via Relapse on a split with Despise You called And On And On…, out April 26.
Chimaira are getting in on the Charlie Sheen meme by re-recording Wild Thing, which you may (or may not) recall was featured in the movie Major League. Metal Wild Thing cover? I'll take it!
Finally, Mastodon have announced that their upcoming Live at the Argon CD/DVD will not only feature an entire live concert (Preview Clip 1, Preview Clip 2, Trailer) but it will also feature the entire tour movie synced with the audio tracks that played behind the band on a video wall during each performance. Fans will get a visual experience, which the band released a teaser for below: (more…)

METAL INJECTION LIVECAST #106 – Rectal Abscess

This Week's Behind The Scenes – Photo Shoot
On this Rob-Free edition of the Livecast the gang takes advantage of the opportunity to have a therapy session about him. The other special thing about this episode, beside it being Robless, is that the broad quantity was raised. We were visited by two sexy girls; Kara Pain from Sirius XM Liquid Metal and Cristina from The Jay Thomas & Alex Bennet show on Sirius XM. Also, Sean reveals a secret wish he's had since childhood, Kara talks about her Wonder Bum, we try to set Shlomo up with Cristina, brainstorm on a new app and play Thrash It or Trash It.
On Thrash It or Trash It we started off with Whistlecore, then played Bastards and I’ll Eat Your Face, and last Karma Killers.
Don't forget to vote in our polls for the second annual Metal Injection Livecast Awards.
If you are in the NYC area come by the March Metal Beatdown presented by Horns Up Rocks and Brutal Bitches Productions. Kara Pain is hosting! The rest of us girls will be in the audience flashing her! Here is the flyer for the show: (more…)

For The Star Wars Geeks Among Us…
Be honest, who doesn't love Star Wars? Especially as a metal head, that movie is epic as fuck. And Darth Vader? Hello! Where do you think death metal giants Vader even got their name from! This shirt is awesome, although at 30 bucks, it's a bit overpriced.

This 13 Year Old Is Better At Guitar Than You Will Ever Be
Here's a video of thirteen year old Anton Oparin shredding at NAMM 2010 convention. When I was thirteen, I was too busy trying to beat video games to focus on anything to the length that this kid had to in order to be that skillful. Damn kids today and their talent!

Taylor Momsen EFFS For Satan

Guess what? Taylor Momsen, that seventeen year old girl who was half naked the cover of Revolver not too long ago, also appears half naked at live shows for her "band" The Pretty Reckless. Metalsucks made me aware of these photos, and since I know a lot of you are perverts, you will probably click the link to gossip site D-Listed where more of these are featured. She's 17 you guys! I kinda want to hang out with her parents, they seem rather liberal, no?

A First Taste of New MORBID ANGEL
Tim Yeung, the current fill-in drummer for Morbid Angel played a drum clinic recently, and one of the songs he played was a new track from the forthcoming Morbid Angel release. Some really nice dude with a really shitty cell phone camera shot it and uploaded it to Youtube. And now we can all sorta enjoy a slight glimpse at what new Morbid Angel will sound like

Judas Priest on American Idol?
Oh God No! Last night on American Idol, some faux-hawk impaired fella decided to cover the Judas Priest classic "You've Got Another Thing Comin'." To be honest, he really didn't do a bad job at all, but the site of Jennifer Lopez getting into a Priest song made me gag a little. Then again, this is a perfect excuse to link to our Metal Idol sketch that we shot a few years ago.

Coolest Photo Ever?

"Hey, you're that fuck you like an animal guy, right?" - Christian Bale
Is this not the most awesome meeting ever? NIN frontman Trent Reznor got some face time with Batman!!!!! This is presumably at one of the after parties where both were celebrating their Oscar wins. Epic photo! [via]

On The Road with THE HUMAN ABSTRACT's A.J Minette Part 1
The Human Abstract is currently on the road with The Atticus Metal tour. Guitarist A.J Minette will be checking in frequently with updates from the road. Here is the first of those updates:
The Atticus Metal Tour is beginning soon, but first we had to make the journey from Los Angeles to Washington DC. We said goodbye to our loved ones and made the 2,700 mile trip in two and a half days. Before we left, we flew in our sound guy Joel, who eventually got pulled over in Texas for driving too slow. It was exactly like Chris Farley in Black Sheep, except we weren’t breathing nitrous. The new Marine Corps. sticker on the back of our trailer should keep us from getting pulled over anymore. Semper Fi.

We also got brave and purchased some new electronics for the van, but realized we didn’t have the necessary tools, light, or workspace to install it, so instead we entertained ourselves with an assortment of leather garments found in the Missouri Flying J gas station. (more…)

A Look Back At BLACK METAL HISTORY MONTH

February. Over so soon? We were just starting to have some fun with our first annual Black Metal History Month and just like that it's over. Here is a look back at our last month of featured articles:
We discussed a few essential black metal albums, that every troo fan needs in their collection including WEAKLING's Dead as Dreams, BURZUM's Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, DARKTHRONE's A Blaze in the Northern Sky, IMMORTAL's Pure Holocaust, and we give tip of our cap to the founders of black metal,
VENOM.
We also got some black metal themed lists together, the most controversial of which was the Top 10 Worst Crimes Committed by Black Metal Musicians, featuring a brutal recollection of how some black metal musicians take things a bit too far. We also clue you in on the Top 10 New Black Metal Bands You Should Know, and lighten up the mood a bit with the Top 10 Silliest Black Metal Videos.
In the reviews department, we spotlighted Lords of Chaos, the definitely book on the rise of black metal and we attended an Immortal show.
Elsewhere on the site, we dedicated an entire episode of The FiX to our favorite black metal videos and Frank posted a new edition of his audio podcast, Heavy Metal Happy Hour, featuring a killer black metal playlist.
We hope you enjoyed Black Metal History Month. We'll be doing it all again next year.

CANDIRIA Writing New Material
When we interviewed members of Candira last year, they seemed to leave the door open to the possibility of recording new music together, even though the band officially broke up a few years ago. Well, according to a recent posting on their Facebook page, the gears are definitely in motion:
“Candiria is in the studio and in the process of putting together music for what will be their next full length release. At this point there is no official release date or working title but the band is considering an early 2012 release.. The band is optimistic and very excited to be working together again on new music. “We’re touching upon all different styles with this one but we want it to be really aggressive . We feel Candiria fans will be thrilled to hear where we’re taking it” John LaMacchia stated regarding the release.
The music thus far has been recorded and engineered by Steve and Ken Schalk at Jupiter 4 studios in Rockaway, NY. Musicians Adrian Gonzalez of The Mars Volta and Trevor Dunn of Mr. Bungle/Fantomas are also slated to take part and create some magic on the record as well. The band is also planning to play 2 headlining dates in NYC next year to support the release. No dates have been set yet but the band wants to make it a very special 2 day event. Thats all for now, stay tuned for more regarding this release.”

Two Things We Missed About The REVOLVER GOLDEN GODS AWARDS
While watching the press conference for the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, we realized, there were two very interesting things we missed when reporting on the award show earlier this week. First up, Sebastian Bach, while having no interest in reuniting with his Skid Row bandmates, will instead perform the Row classic "Youth Gone Wild" with Sumerian up-and-comers Asking Alexandria as his backing band. Ok, that could be fun. But, what really sparked my interest is the announcement that Devildriver will be doing an all-star tribute to Black Flag featuring Jamey Jasta and other special guests. Fuck yes! Now things are getting interesting. For more on the performances and nominees for this year's show, visit our previous post on the matter.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, ALL THAT REMAINS Announce Uranium Tour
There is a new tour on the horizon, Zakk Wylde and his Black Label Society are heading out for another headlining run, and they will be taking All That Remains and Hail the Villan out on the road with them. The tour is being dubbed the Uranium tour, and "presented" by Mistress Juliya. We're not sure if that means that Juliya will be out on the road with the tour, or she just gets her name on the poster, but good for her either way? Maybe this means Fuse will start paying attention to metal again (probably not). Here is the current itinerary for the tour: (more…)
