New England Metal and Hardcore Fest has long been my favorite show of the year. Among its many great qualities, one that stands out and separates it from other similar events: if you want to get a good snapshot of what's happening in heavy music right now, NEMHF is the best place to get it. [...]
The metal world was shocked when Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi announced he had lymphoma. A year and a half later, Iommi is cancer free, but not without a price. He has to regularly go in for check-ups and blood transfusions. Iommi described the arduous process he goes through to the Birmingham Mail. Here are highlights:
Is it fucking June already? The new Black Sabbath album — the first album featuring Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Ozzy Osbourne in 35 years — is set to drop on June 11, and the band just released a video unveiling the cover artwork. You can also hear a snippet of an unknown new song [...]
Immolation's upcoming Kingdom of Conspiracy record is out on May 4th, but you can catch a tune right here!
Clive Burr, who drummed on Iron Maiden's self titled, Killers, live EP Maiden Japan, and Number of the Beast has passed away as of March 13th, 2013, due to Multiple Sclerosis. The band published the following statement:
Recently we got the chance to speak with Tony C. of the band Judicator, and one of the founders of the label Masters of Metal Productions. Masters of Metal Productions started off as the label offshoot of the Masters of Metal Forum, and has grown into a much larger metal music label. We spoke with [...]
Following my post on the origins of 25 Heavy Metal Stage Names, I thought what better sub-genre to focus the next iteration of the column on than black metal? It is after all the genre where stage names are taken so seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if some of these musician's mothers were given a [...]
This is sort of unreal. Legendary guitarists Tony Iommi (he of Black Sabbath) and Brian May (he of Queen) have been quietly collaborating on a new project, with a unique twist. It's not exactly a new full-length album, but a gathering of riffs, that will be delivered to you to do with whatever you chose.
Rolling Stone apparently cares about music again! They posted a very in-depth article on the upcoming Black Sabbath album, 13 and it features new tidbits of interest from the recording of the new record:
Professional video for the song "A Eulogy For the Living Lost" from the CD "Into Night's Requiem Infernal." Filmed in Florida with the same director who created "Autumn Reflection," Tony Myles and Cage XXI have created a vision of a post apocalyptic television broadcast. This unique look was filmed with the custom made "Wartooth" camera.
NSFW!. Job for a Cowboy's video "Tarnished Gluttony" from the album "Demonocracy". Directed by Michael Panduro. Originally premiered on Bloody Disgusting. Jonny Davy comments: "'Tarnished Gluttony' originally runs off the idea of blind faith into our government and monetary system. The director ran with the idea and spliced it with a H.P. Lovecraftian twist. The video [...]
Black Sabbath have been recording their new album, tentatively titled 13, for the better part of the last few months. The band are currently working with session drummer and Rage Against The Machine skinman Brad Wilk. The latest word from bassist Geezer Butler? The band is done recording and getting ready to mix the album.
Someone sent a letter to Tony Danza about a band called "The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza"
We've always had a great time at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards. We've been on the black carpet every year (watch some of our interviews), but this year it seems like they really stepped it up for their 5th anniversary.
