Best of 2012
Posted on December 13th, 2012
2012 has been a strange old year for metal in the UK. It saw the dissolution of our much treasured Roadrunner Records UK as an independent label and the shocking cancellation of one of the country's fastest growing metal weekenders, Sonisphere Festival UK. Talk about 'bummer'. Now, if all of this wasn't terrible enough, lest [...]

Before you read the recap, browse the massive photo gallery from Bloodstock This being my third Bloodstock in a row, it felt much more like a yearly traditional visit with an old friend than it did “work”. Boasting what was described by many as being their “best line-up yet” and also the best weather I’d [...]

Late last week, while promoting Cannibal Corpse's upcoming headlining tour, co-founding member Paul Mazurkiewicz gave an interview to Billboard and was asked about the Big 4 of Death Metal, an obvious play on the Big 4 of Thrash, that have been selling out stadiums worldwide. To his credit, Mazurkiewicz seemed all for it, saying:

In the searing heat of English summer approximately 15,000 people flooded a tiny patch of field to wreak chaos, drink too much beer and be part of the UK’s biggest independent music festival. The usual mix of mankini wearing drunkards, corpse painted serious people and average joe metal fans partied from Thursday to Sunday in [...]

Whittling all the epic shows I was fortunate enough to see in 2011 into only five choices, then prioritizing them [...]

Think of the new Megadeth album like this: take Endgame and add a large dose of Youthanasia and Countdown to Extinction, then mix it all in a blender and you’ll get a good idea of how it sounds. For die-hard Megadeth fans (like me), the album is a catchy, solid slice of good metal. Much [...]

Periphery have been pretty busy as of late. They just wrapped up a tour of Australia, have a huge North American headlining tour coming up, and the band has been working on a ton of music. So much so, that they have decided to put all of it out as two separate releases next year.

In a desolate, windswept region of north-west Wales lies a sheep strewn sea-side town named Prestatyn. Within its bowels is a dinky holiday village that goes by the name of Pontins. Amidst the out of date 1950s chalet glamour (malfunctioning showers, flushing toilets and horrifically stained duvets) several thousand metallers ran, stumbled and fell over [...]

We've been covering the back and forth between Joey Jordison and Corey Taylor for a while now. It's getting a bit ridiculous at this point. When we last left the story, Joey was hyping up the maggots saying everything is on the up-and-up. Anybody who has read the comments frontman Corey Taylor has made in [...]
