The video is directed by Bernardo Loyola, who worked on the documentary film 'Heavy Metal in Baghdad,' which told the story of Acrassicauda and premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival. "After working on the 'Heavy Metal in Baghdad' documentary and being so close to the story of the band, the text at the [...]

Geo·dissonance: the metal movement is proliferating to all corners of the globe. In its relentless display of vitriolic truths and the ugliest questions of existence, we can hear the resounding riffs of heavy metal in the most conservative pockets of society. As your Punjabi, riff-worshiping correspondent, I've created Geodissonance to report the controversy: as metal [...]

In a country that boasts of our first amendment, we've taken our liberties to speak, shred, and blast beat out – in the name of anti-clerical, anarchic causes, and pure metal blasphemy. This anti-clerical expression is far from confined to the states; we get such doses from the finest black metal bands of Finland, to [...]

It's on! For the second year in a row, Scion is announcing a free one day festival: Scion Rock Fest. This year's lineup looks decent (although hard to top last year's mammoth lineup featuring MASTODON and NEUROSIS as headliners). By Ben Apatoff Why should fiction get all the fun? There are plenty of great metal rockumentaries, especially in the past few years, and the best ones absolutely deserve their own list. To prevent this from being a list of the 6,6(66) greatest metal docs, I'm ruling out concert movies (sorry, Flight 666) and other [...]

MetalSucks just alerted me to the fact that the VBS documentary, Heavy Metal In Baghdad is an amazing documentary about the only Iraqi metal band, ACRASSICAUDA. The doc follows their plight and exit from Iraq and how hard it was to get out. They have since relocated to New Jersey and are working on demos. [...]

One Gideon Yago MTV news report. Two directors. 8 years later. And the members of ACRASSICAUDA are granted refugee status in America. We've been ranting and raving about the VBS documentary, Heavy Metal Baghdad, as it is seriously something every metalhead should see. The kids in ACRASSICAUDA are the same type of people as you [...]

In a truly uplifting story, the (first?) heavy metal band in Iraq, Acrassicauda, subject of the Vice documentary Heavy Metal in Baghdad, was finally granted refugee status and allowed into the U.S. a few months ago. They will soon be applying for green card status. To top it all off, 3/4ths of the band got [...]

We've been lucky enough to have Bay Area thrashers TESTAMENT on the site multiple times, but it never stops being awesome. We recently had the chance to speak with the two shredmasters of the group, Eric and Alex. The two guitarists spoke about what its like opening a show as opposed to playing later, tell [...]

Our friends at Metalsucks.net posted the following: Heavy metal is as international as any musical genre, and that’s why we think this press release we received from VBS.tv is pretty rad: “Acrassicauda, Iraq’s only metal band, have had to sell all their non-essential stuff (CDs, tapes, t-shirts) so they could move after receiving some pretty [...]
