The metal world is still shocked about the news that broke yesterday that Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman of Slayer passed away due to liver failure at the young age of 49. Musicians everywhere have been paying tribute, and here is a roundup of their kind words for the influential guitarist:

New Vicious Rumors is coming. Their new album, Electric Punishment will be released through SPV / Steamhammer on April 26th in Germany, April 29th in Europe and May 7th in the US/Canada. I

I just got way more excited for the new album from Battlecross, the band have announced they have recruited former the Black Dahlia Murder drummer Shannon Lucas to be the session drummer on the record. 

Kind of a ho-hum week… a few notable releases but mostly crate digging. Next week is the fucking jam, though, so don't get too deep in hock jocking on Volbeat. Let's get to it, then.

Southern Lord would eat these guys up. No Salvation play a sludge/stoner-friendly hardcore that doesn't fit neatly into one category but would immediately gel on the current SL roster. For now they're self-releasing their debut EP, Faith, through Bandcamp (ie. digital only, which is where Southern Lord needs to step in… this is eminently vinyl-worthy).

Back when there were record stores, there were some places that sold compilation albums of different artists. Sometimes they were full priced, and other times they were either inexpensive or free.
