In 2004, METALLICA were set to headline the UK's Download Festival, except for one problem; Lars got sick and couldn't play. So the band enlisted some very talented drummers (mainly Joey Jordinson from SLIPKNOT and Dave Lombardo of SLAAAYEERRR) to help fill in and the result was the best METALLICA sounded in years (videos after the jump.) This thought was not lost on Dave Lombardo who offered to help Lars sharpen up his skills in a recent interview:
Rhythm: Playing with METALLICA at Download in 2004 must have been quite an experience.
Lombardo: "Yeah. Show 'em how it's done! No disrespect to Lars, because Lars is great and he's a very nice guy, but he needs to spend a week at my house and we need to sit down and play. I could show him — 'No, Lars, like this!'… 'Let's chill, let's relax, have some coffee and let's play!' Hahahahaha!"
Lars, speaking for most of your fans, I want to implore you to take Dave up on his offer. Your drummer sucks and it totally holds the band back. To see some quality drumming, check out the Download 2004 footage after the jump… (more…)

UPDATED: We posted the behind the scenes clip from this week after the jump…
We return with a bang after being off the air last week. This week we seek guns at WalMart, Jenny sings some John Cougar Mellencamp, we discuss what type of awards would be given out if we had an award show for our podcast, awkward fan interactions, a caller who claims he was not from Cocoa, Flordia, parental permission and doody talk. Overall, many laughs were had. Here is this week's playlist:
DECAPITATED – Nihility
VENOM – Countess Bathory
JAVELINA – Towers of Silence
SEPULTURA – Refuse/Resist
W.A.S.P. – The Real Me
SKELETONWITCH – Repulsive Salvation
By the way, here is a little video from last week. We shot it last Wednesday right as we got out of the Neil Hamburger show. See the type of people who attended this show with us: (more…)

Hmm, this is a little weird. DEVILDRIVER and SUFFOCATION are going out on the road together. Does this really make sense? I think there is some sense in it. SUFFOCATION are one of the heaviest bands on the planet, whereas DEVILDRIVER is sort of a gateway band into heavier music. Some 'driver fans than show up early may be blown away by Suffo and thus become converts, while others will just stand there with a confused gaze on their faces. It's heavily rumored that GOATWHORE and THY WILL BE DONE will also be on the bill. Is this a tour you see yourself attending?

Rumors

Every metalhead's favorite scene in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is the one where Cannibal Corpse is playing in the club and Carrey gets up on stage and parties with them (embedded above). For the longest time, it was rumored that Carrey himself asked for the band to appear in the movie as he is a big fan. Well, rumor SMASH! Carrey is not a fan. Jim's son-in-law, who himself is in the metal band BLOOD MONEY finally put the rumors to rest in a comment on a Blabbermouth post:
"For the record, Jim hates death metal… He'd never heard of CANNIBAL until doin' that movie. Trust me, it's the first thing I asked him when we met."
There you have it! After years and years, all it took was a metal dude shtooping his daughter to find out the true answer to the question Is Jim Carrey a metal fan.

It's not even January and already word is leaking out about headliners for the biggest summer festival around, Mayhem Festival.
Current KORN drummer Ray Luzier let the cat out of the bag during a recent interview and revealed that his band would be headlining the summer festival. Meanwhile, ThePRP is reporting that Rob Zombie will headline the festival as well, which makes perfect sense seeing as though he is about to put an album out.
Meanwhile, Jamey Jasta was a little more subtle about HATEBREED being on the bill. When speaking to Metal Mark, he said "We're gonna be on a very big summer tour, which I just can't say just yet, but most people will probably guess." Now, he could also mean Ozzfest, which is rumored to be returning next summer.
How do you guys feel about these initial announcements? Who would you like to see on the bill?
[Special thanks to MetalInsider and Blabbermouth]

If you are a fan of the Livecast, you know that frontman Tim Lambesis revealed in a recent interview that his band, AS I LAY DYING is planning an album release in early 2010. The wheels are already churning on the new release, as Tim recently posted an update from the studio:
We've released little bits of information here or there in previous news posts and blogs, but there are still questions coming in concerning what we've been up to. Below is an unquestionably obvious outline concerning our future plans.
1) We started working on new album
2) We started recording that new album a few weeks ago with Adam [Dutkiewicz of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE] and Daniel Castleman at the reigns (and JMR for a couple weeks). (more…)

SYLOSIS, one of the UK's most buzzed about metal acts are eying an early-2010 release for their sophomore effort. The band is working with producer Scott Atkins, who previously worked with the band on their 2008 debut, Conclusion Of An Age (which rules by the way). Guitarist Josh Middleton issued an update and one sentence in said update got me really excited "I've been writing riffs thinking things like, 'What if (TOOL guitarist) Adam Jones played guitar in DEATH." The band is currently tracking drums and plans to finish the recording process in January.
Also, make sure to check out our extremely goofy interview with the blokes from this year's New England Metalfest. They were a great bunch of guys (and avid Metal Injection fans) and produced a hilarious interview. Check it!

A few weeks ago, we had the privilege of attending what very well could be the last BURNT BY THE SUN show on U.S. soil. Knowing this was such a monumental event, we had to tape some footage for you guys! The extremely-intimate (tiny as fuck) venue known as the Cake Shop was packed to the gills with Burnt fans ready to witness history. And, the band definitely delivered. We managed to capture the first four songs of their set. Check em out:
1/4 – There Will Be Blood
2/4 – Goliath
3/4 – Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom
4/4 – Forlani

HYPOCRISY cancel US tour due to immigration issues November 17, 2009
WTF America? Looks like one of the members of HYPOCRISY can't get a visa to get into the country in time for the start of their tour, resulting in the whole tour being canceled. In an update issued by frontman Peter Tägtgren, he promises "We will try to come back as soon as possible, as we want to show our U.S. fans that we care for them and we are ready to play the new songs live!" Damn, I was really looking forward to seeing Alexi shred along with the band.

Pretty much the most anticipated release of 2010 for me is going to be the new DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN cd, Option Paralysis. Following the band on Twitter (here and here), I saw that the band completed tracking everything last week. They are done recording and have now entered the mixing phase. Today came the news that the band has set a release date for the record: March 23, 2010. The CD will be released on the band's own imprint, Party Smasher Inc (and distributed by Seasons of the Mist). Is it March yet? One can only the hope the band will be previewing some of the new material on their upcoming tour with THURSDAY.
If you haven't been keeping up with the band's recording process, they have release a slew of studio updates. Check them out here.

We're all about bringing underground bands to the masses, that's why we've teamed up with Portland, Oregon's ACROSS THE SUN for this free MP3 download of their track "The Ardent Optimist" off their recent release Pestilence & Rapture. The song, which starts off sounding like an American take on Gothenberg metal (think somewhere between DEVILDRIVER and SOILWORK) eventually bringing a melody in reminiscent of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE.
Admittedly, this is not very kvlt or grim or anything of the sort, this is just a fun and catch metal song to get you through your week. Is that so wrong? Download it below…

Norwegian metal act MIKSHA have posted a brilliant new music video highlighting the many uses of their new CD, The Vulture Conspiracy and also sneaking in a sampling of one of the tracks on the album, Morphine. A really great way to get noticed, if you ask me. Make a viral video poking fun at current pop culture while also exposing people to your music. Thumbs up! A funny video as well!
