UPDATE: We have added this week's Behind the Scenes video after the jump

We had two very special guests on this edition of the METAL INJECTION LIVECAST, Greg Weeks of THE RED CHORD & Paul Waggonner of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME. Greg calls early on and starts some beef with Paul, which Paul responds to later in the show. Also, when Paul comes on the air, we have a hurricane of callers, our most call-ins ever, asking deep questions about his hair cut and Cheetos. In all fairness, some dudes ask some good questions about guitars and the band. Also, we talk about Dave Ellefson's new career reading people's resumes, Geek2Geek and more! We also have a few calls from the Googler, including something in the final minutes of the show that may have been too far! Here is this week's playlist, mostly picked by 3D:
THE RED CHORD – The Ugliest Truth
ANTHRAX feat. PUBLIC ENEMY – Bring The Noise
SUICIDAL TENDENCIES – Trip At The Brain
ENTOMBED – Left Hand Path
BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME – Fossil Genera – A Feed From Cloud Mountain
Plus the comedic stylings of Bill Hicks and Kumail Nanjiani

Around the Interwebs

About a year ago I found an article in Vice where writer Chris Nieratko wrote about his favorite unpublished interview ever, where he interviewed our favorite Satan-worshiper, Nergal from Polish black metal band BEHEMOTH, with all the questions being setups for stereotypical Polish jokes, which seemingly went over Nergal's head. With the hipster publication celebrating it's 15th anniversary, said writer decided to publish the raw interview, and well, here take a look: (more…)

MESHUGGAH Live DVD gets a release date October 30, 2009
As we previously reported, MESHUGGAH will be putting out a live DVD early next year. The show featured will most likely be the show we attended back in February. The live DVD is set to be released almost one year to the day later, currently set for a February 9th release. I know one person who is really pumped.

Call it "Deeper Colors." Approximately two years after BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME leapt into headliner status on Colors, they've plunged further into each direction they took on that album. The Great Misdirect raises the Colors bar in every way that BTBAM previously did in following up Alaska, showcasing a grasp of melody, brutality and tempo shifts that sounds both natural and idiosyncratic. Extended doses of death metal intensity? Check. Relaxed, lounge-rock detours that slip in and out like lucid dreams? Beautifully emotive shredding from guitarists who are clearly talented enough to show off but don't? Check. Genres? Never heard of them. (more…)

Like OZZY before them, RAMMSTEIN confirmed the lunacy of their would-be censors by being far too goofy for anyone who actually listened to their music to even think about inflicting harm. Unlike their self-serious Family Values tourmates (who acted like they were clamoring for the type of bad publicity Rammstein stumbled into,) the German sextet walked MANOWAR's "are-you-freaking-kidding-me" line into fundustrial madness, spectacularly over-the-top shows and most recently, a video that Ron Jeremy would be ashamed of. Call it a gimmick, but even without the video, "Pussy" and the rest of Liebe ist für alle da is catchier, funnier and more creative than anything MARILYN MANSON or ROB ZOMBIE have released in years. ROB ZOMBIE signs with Loud & Proud/Roadrunner October 29, 2009
Hasta la bye bye, Geffen. ROB ZOMBIE is ditching his label of 18 years and taking his Hellbilly Deluxe sequel to Roadrunner imprint Loud & Proud. Quoth the Zombie, "I love this new record and wanted to surround myself with an excited new group of people who can reignite my enthusiasm for working within a hard rock record label." In short, the album's been pushed back to 2010, so we get to wait a few months to find out if the rest of it is as generic as the single. Looking forward to that tour, though.

Fuck Yes!, Tour Dates
Posted on October 28th, 2009

Wow! MetalSucks has alerted me to the fact that BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME announced on their MySpace page that in January of 2010 they will be out on the road with CYNIC, THE DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT and SCALE THE SUMMIT. Holy shit… if they need a title for the tour, I got one: Sploogefest. Because that's what will happen when I see it. ThePRP has posted some unconfirmed dates. No idea where they got the dates as I couldn't find them anywhere else, but we're going to post them here anyway. When we get the official press release, you better believe we will post about it… UPDATE 10/27/09 – We just got a press release from Devin Townsend's label with a press release announcing the full schedule for the tour… (more…)

So Revolver's new Hottest Chicks in Metal Ever issue is now on newsstands. You can go buy the issue or scan through it right here and it features your typical array of pretty girls. What does this have to do with metal? Not much really, but I think when Grace Perry of Landmine Marathon got the call, she was pumped because if she was a dude, there is no way in hell Revolver was covering that band. The cover is above and we have some other photos after the jump. (more…)

A few nights ago while watching the Colbert Report, I saw the above segment which Stephen discusses a new website, Hollywood Is Calling where "celebrities" who are strapped for cash charge you to create a video message. More to the point, charge 300 dollars to read your resume. Who is one of these celebrities? Former MEGADETH bassist Dave Ellefson! The clip even features Dave reading somebody's resume.
Dave, buddy, what the hell are you doing? Have you no shame? Clearly, you do not seeing as though you are a part of this, but there has to be an easier way for you to make some cash.

Time is winding down! You only have until this Saturday, appropriately Halloween day to submit your best impersonation of Alexi for a chance to win his sick-ass ESP guitar. In case you forgot what the deal was here is a snippet from the contest page:
Between now and October 31, you're going to film yourself doing your very best impersonation of Alexi Laiho. What does that mean? Exactly what it sounds like; you're going to do whatever it takes* to create a video where we can't tell you apart from Alexi. You can wear a wig, you can adopt Alexi's stage moves, or anything you want within reason. But to win, you'd better make us laugh, or blow our minds with your ability to be a clone of Alexi. In any case, our panel of judges will watch each video, and the one we deem the coolest will be selected to win an ESP Alexi Laiho Signature Series LTD AL-600 Scythe guitar!
So what are you waiting for? Get to recording and enter the contest!

SUFFOCATION's old label, Relapse Records just released the first live album of one of death metal's finest acts. The album is currently streaming in it's entirety and since we think it fucking rules, we arranged a free MP3 download of the first track on the disc, "Infecting the Crypts".
Also, the fine folks at Relapse are giving us a free copy of the CD to give away to you junkies. To be entered into the contest, simply leave a comment with the name of their first studio release ever. We will randomly pick one of the entrants to get the copy of the CD.

Podcasts, THE FiX
Posted on October 26th, 2009

A lot of longtime fans of Metal Injection comment about how they miss the episodic format we had when we first started. We've evolved to a much bigger site than just weekly episodes, but when we started the FiX it was to try to continue the format of those early episodes in terms of showcasing sweet music videos. Well, for this Halloween, since it is the most metal of all holidays we thought we'd do a Halloween special in the tradition of our zombie special and our slasher special. (Wow, I can't believe they were done so long ago). This year's Halloween special takes the Creep Show format of telling three separate tales focusing on Rob, Frank and Noa. Also, all three of them and Sid and 3D each picked a music video to air on the episode. Can you guess who picked what? It's not really that difficult.
You can stream the episode right now at this location. If you'd like to download the hi-res version of the podcast, click here, or if you would like to subscribe to our podcast, you can do so via iTunes or RSS
