Vincent from THE ACACIA STRAIN vs. Frankie from EMMURE in a Brass Knuckles Match!

acacia-emmure

Everybody knows there is drama with THE ACACIA STRAIN and EMMURE due to the former rightly feeling the latter stole their sound. Acacia less than subtly hinted at it when we interviewed them last year. This has been quite an ongoing war of words but there was a physical altercation between Acacia's Vincent Bennet and Emmure vocalist at Emmure's show last night in Clifton Park, NY – TO THE DEATH (ok that last part is not true), but Lambgoat has a full account of the story… (more…)

MEGADETH announce Fall 2009 tour with MACHINE HEAD, SUICIDE SILENCE

MEGADETH Headcrusher Video

I've been listening to MEGADETH's new CD Endgame and it's pretty fucking killer. The best 'deth CD in quite a while. Which is why I am incredibly stoked that the band just announced a full US tour with MACHINE HEAD, SUICIDE SILENCE and ARCANIUM in toe. Unfortunately, the tour doesn't seem to hit too many major markets, making me wonder if they are saving those for a bigger tour package. YOU SCHMUCKS BETTER COME TO NY, DAMN IT! Full dates after the jump… (more…)

The most metal moment of last night's Video Music Awards

deathwishVMA

Last night I watched suffered through the Video Music Awards. I figured I'd watch MUSE and see how terrible the state of pop music was, but mostly I watched because I was a masochist. There was nothing metal about the night except for one of the dudes from FALL OUT BOY wearing a Deathwish Inc shirt, the record label of CONVERGE frontman Jacob Bannon. We all know the band listens to metal, even do PANTERA covers sometimes.

So yea, that was the most "metal" thing that night. Well, Jack Black came out and did some dumb prayer to Satan, but it was dumb. Naturally, we embedded it if you want to torture yourself. It's after the jump… (more…)

New DYING FETUS is streaming in its entirety

DescendThe cover isn't really what I'd expect from these guys (more Sin City, less Texas v. Johnson,) but at first listen the new DYING FETUS sounds like the pretty solid death metal that they're capable of. It's called Descend Into Depravity, and it's all streaming right here. JOHN GALLAGHER is still the only original member, there's a new drummer and unless you know someone at Relapse, you can have a copy in your hands this upcoming Tuesday, September 15.

GUS G. reveals the process of joining OZZY's band

gus-g-ozzyIn his first public interview since being installed as new guitarist of OZZY OSBOURNE's band, guitarist GUS G. (also of FIREWIND) spoke to the Greek version of Metal Hammer magazine about how he was approached about joining Ozzy's band, and it almost sounds like a 15 year old who has a crush on a girl:

I got a message on my MySpace page from Rob 'Blasko', Ozzy's bass player, asking me what was doing, if was living in America or not and saying that he wanted to talk to me. I never thought he'd want me for something like that [playing with Ozzy]. I initially thought that maybe he wanted to talk to me about doing a project or something and then he told me that one of Ozzfest's managers was looking for me. The manager said that they wanted me to fly out to Los Angeles immediately for a show that Ozzy was about to do in Anaheim, California.

Ozzy had to send his friend to ask first! And, via MySpace of course! But before Ozzy could make the plunge, he had to make sure his friends liked Gus: (more…)

Rob Halford Releasing Christmas Album. WHHHYYYYYY?!?!?

halford-christmasWHY?? WHY?? WHY??? First Twisted Sister, now Halford? That's unfortunately the case as the JUDAS PRIEST frontman will be releasing Halford III – Winter Songs on his own Metal God Records. The disc will include "a collection of new Halford-penned tracks plus traditional holiday favorites presented with original arrangements by HALFORD". Here are some of the tracks already announced:

- ‘Get Into The Spirit’
- ‘When Christmas Comes For Everyone’
- ‘Light Of The World’
- ‘What Child Is This’
- ”Oh Holy Night’
- ‘Come All Ye Faithful’

UGH!! The only saving grace is that Halford's backing band is full of seriously skilled musicians including Roy Z. on guitar, Metal Mike Chlasciak on guitar, Mike Davis on bass and (one of Frank's favorite drummers) Bobby Jarzombek on drums. So, it might be cool despite it's complete lameness. I guess we'll see at the end of the month when the first single is released (a full 3 months before winter even officially kicks off).

Did Halford not see our AntiChrist-mas special a few years back?

Video Games

Now you can pay NYU to play Guitar Hero!

guitarheroschoolThe Fall semester has just started for college students, and for young hipsters attending NYU one of the classes offered will be a glorified Guitar Hero sesh. The course is called "Guitar Heroes (and Heroines): Music, Video Games and the Nature of Human Cognition." So, you mean now I can pay 10 grand for a class where I match my button-tapping skills with fellow nerds? They quoted the professor offering the course who had a very "deep" comment to make:

"Video games are an understudied area," said Marcus. "People dismiss them unfairly, but 'Guitar Hero' is a good tool for teaching and I'm interested in the nature of learning." The course will tackle questions such as: "Why are human beings so easily sucked in by video games?" The class, which Marcus capped at 16 students, had a waiting list, he said.

Another question should be "Why are human beings sucked in to pay for an overpriced school with a meaningless educational program? The big question here is, will there be homework?

Dave Mustaine clears the air about Big 4 Thrash Tour; Any Beef With SLAYER

megadethDave Mustaine has spoken! He posted a lengthy update on the band's forum discussing a lot of topics we've been reporting on, including the rumors of a Big 4 Thrash Tour:

Regarding rumors of the 'Big Four' [METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX] touring, I have heard nothing about this, other than gossip, and I don't think that anyone would turn it down, but there are a lot of things that would have to be worked out. A LOT!

Translation: They better offer me enough coke if they expect me to tour with them for a month. Ok, ok maybe not. He also seemed to try to make amends with SLAYER after everything that's recently went down in the press: (more…)

COALESCE European Tour Diary Part 3: Berlin To Netherlands

Coalesce recently embarked on their first European trek ever, so we asked them to document the journey in the form of a few tour blogs. This is the first blog in a three-part series about their touring, with each blog written by a different member of the band. This final entry was written by guitarist Jes Steineger. You can also check out Part I and Part II of these blogs.

Day 11: Cassiopeia (Berlin/Germany)

I had been looking forward to Berlin for the entire trip. Really, I had been looking forward to Germany in general for the entire trip. Initially, my plan was to have our driver stop in Weimar on the way from Vienna so as to see some sites affiliated with Master Goethe, but there just wasn’t time. Neither was there time to see anything affiliated with Nietzsche, Hegel, Heidegger, Kant, or Schelling either. Of the 15 days on this tour, at least 12 of those days cumulatively were on the road. 16 shows in 15 days doesn’t leave much time for anything but driving. Since most of our shows were in Germany though, we were still able to see so much of the country (in all its over-graffiti-ed glory). (more…)

ALICE IN CHAINS' comeback is for serious

Alice in Chains

As I watched Alice in Chains power through their amazing 90+ minute set at Irving Plaza this past Tuesday, I couldn't help but think of how many modern rock radio bands ripped off Jerry Cantrell's signature sound. There probably wouldn't be a modern rock radio if it wasn't for Alice In Chains. In fact, I tweeted "All shitty new radio rock bands need to bow down at the alter of Sir Jerry Cantrell. Lookin at you Shinedown!" (more…)

We were hacked earlier!

A few of you have let us know that our site was producing a Trojan alert of some sort. We have looked into the issue and tracked the problem down to a piece of software we were using. If you guys hit the site up earlier today on a Windows computer, you may have been infected by the trojan. I would recommend doing a virus check. If you do not have a anti-virus program, you can download a free one called AVG. We apologize for the inconvenience.
