A/V Roundup: New music from BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, CONVERGE, CHILDREN OF BODOM, HORSE THE BAND & more

So much great new music, so little time! No talk, just play:

VictoryMetal.com has posted a stream of a brand new song from BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME called "Obfuscation". In a bit of a dick move, they ask for you to enter your email address before hearing the stream, but here's the hot tip: put it a fake email address and you'll get access no problem! You're welcome. Listen here. Their new CD, The Great Misdirect is out October 27th.

I was lucky enough to hear a stream of the new CONVERGE album, and suffice to say it kicks fucking ass. Seriously. It's really really good, and I wasn't really the biggest CONVERGE fan before. Lucky for you, the band have posted the title track off their new CD, Axe To Fall for free download at SPIN. I implore you to download it and proceed to destroy your desk from the sheer rage the music will bring upon you.

CHILDREN OF BODOM have posted two tracks from their upcoming covers album, Skeletons in the Closet, on their MySpace page. The covers posted were of Billy Idol's classic "Rebel Yell" and the 80's most underrated band, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES' "War Inside My Head". The cover album comes out September 23rd.

HORSE THE BAND have posted a new track called "Rape Escape" on Lambgoat and it's pretty awesome. Lots of synth which if done right, is not a bad thing (unlike with Attack Attack)

With possibly the best song title out of all of these entries, AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE (the Ahhnuld-inspired project from AS I LAY DYING frontman Tim Lambesis) has posted the track "I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots, And Your Motorcycle" on their MySpace page.

MetalSucks is hosting an exclusive stream of a THE DESTRO track called "Persistance of Ignorance"

DAATH Shredders Working With CYNIC drummer on killer side project

Woah! In his latest column for MetalSucks, DAATH guitarist and our very good friend Eyal Levi announced that he and fellow DAATH shredder Emil Werstler will be teaming up with (the man, the myth, the legend) Sein Reinert of CYNIC to work on a side-project shred album expected to be released in Spring 2010. Eyal elaborates: (more…)

Live Nation announces All You Can Rock Pass

Live Nation is doing something really cool (for once!). They are announcing a new pass which they are calling the Club Passport (I prefer my "All You Can Rock Pass" title but what do I know). For 50 beans, you can go to as many shows at participating venues in your area as you want. It's like going to an all you can eat buffet but instead of a food coma, you're just deaf for a few days after. Sounds like a good deal. For more info on the Club Passport, click here. Non-2009 Albums You Need To Hear Now

by Justina Villanueva

This is proof it's never too late …

I'm not the hippest person when it comes to new music. Most of my metal friends are aware of how stubborn I am when it comes to being receptive with bands outside of my top five (Slayer, Mastodon, DEP, Opeth and Pig Destroyer). I'd say 86% of the time I find out about bands through shows and the rest is through Rob Injection and other bloggers banging a mallet over my head with band names and new albums from bands I already love (i.e. I'm still warming up to 'Crack The Skye'). So I've decided to take the time and review three success story albums, since I won't be reviewing anything in 2009 anytime soon, and because YOU ALL need to hear these. NOW. (more…)

MI sponsoring BARONESS Fall Headlining Tour

METAL Injection is proud to be one of the co-sponsors of the upcoming BARONESS tour. We cannot stop listing to the Blue Album here at the MI Studios, and it might just be the album of the year for us. Having seen this band countless times over the years at festival sized venues as well as in basements and lofts, I can tell you that they bring it no matter where they play. It's secondary to the wall of tone they hit you with. If this tour is coming to your town, do not miss it! Not familiar with some of the bands? Use the widget above to familiarize yourself with 'em. So the Big Four Thrash Tour may actually happen?

A few weeks ago the internet was abuzz when SLAYER guitarist Kerry King said he heard Lars from METALLICA was trying to get the big four thrash bands (that's METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX) to go out on a monster tour for the ages. We blew it off as just rumor-mongering, especially since Dave Mustiane publicly said he's heard nothing about this. Well, now we have another piece of wood to add to the fire. METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo was recently interviewed and had this to say: (more…)

SLAYER reveal World Painted Blood cover art

World-Painted-Blood-Slayer

Above you can see the cover art for SLAYER's upcoming release, World Painted Blood (out November 3rd). Well, sort of. You see, this is a map ("illustrated with human skulls and bones") that has 4 pieces to it, and the only way to get all four pieces of the map would be to buy four copies of the CD. Brilliant marketing move! SLAYER fans are super die-hard, as drummer Dave Lombardo had said in our recent interview, and I can see them totally going nuts for this! Will you buy all 4 copies?

Also, there is going to be a special edition with a different map. Official press release after the jump… (more…)

ROB ZOMBIE names album, announces tour & openers

Signifying either a return to form or just how much his music has taken backseat to his directing career, ROB ZOMBIE's newest opus is christened Hellbilly Deluxe 2: Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls and the Systematic Dehumanization of Cool and is set for a November release.
Thoughts:

1: Sequels are almost always a terrible idea.
2: The Devil's Rejects was far more entertaining than Educated Horses.
3: Rob Zombie is a dynamite performer who puts on a spectacular live show. Regardless of what his new music sounds like, count on being at one of the following shows, listed after the jump: (more…)

Google's Thoughts on Heavy Metal

Everybody can agree that Google is all knowing and all powerful. Now, with the advent of auto-suggest we can see what Google thinks of some of our favorite (and least favorite) metal bands and personalities. I was a little bored so I did some typing and captured some screen shots. All of these have not been altered at all and are 100% real!

Hmm, guess Googs thinks Ozzy should retire too!

Ha! It seems everybody agrees!

YOB: The Metal Injection Interview

YOB

As September 18th draws ever closer, the riff-hungry troops of doom are stocking up on earplugs and rolling papers, preparing to follow the sign of the Southern cross down towards their own uber-resinated version of Mecca. Past the Mason-Dixon line and just shy of Hell itself lies their destination -  Asheville, North Carolina, which, thanks to a bevy of bands and some seriously ambitious promoters, is in turn gearing up to bear witness to the heaviest gig of the year. With the Metal Injection-sponsored (you're welcome) Planet Caravan Festival right around the corner and excitement running higher than Bobby Liebling on a day that ends in "y," we here at Metal Injection figured it was high time we gave y'all a peek behind the wall of sleep and unveiled a brand-new interview with those freshly resurrected, impossibly heavy and inescapably vital purveyors of cosmic, mind-altering "doom with a capital D and six extra O's," YOB.

Resident feedback worshipper Grim Kim caught up with YOB's Mike Scheidt for some gnarly Q&A action about stellar new record The Great Cessation, Planet Caravan, and the neverending triumph of DOOM (in all-Caps, of course). (more…)

CD Review: THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER Deflorate

deflorateReview by James Greene, Jr.

Dictionary.com defines the word “deflorate” as “past the flowering state; having shed its pollen.” That seems wickedly apropos for the Black Dahlia Murder, who have indeed just past their flowering state as the “it” band of death metal. Their last album, 2007’s Nocturnal, was praised to the sky, and for good reason – it was a nimble, invigorating exercise that proved blast beats and Cookie Monster vocals could almost be populist. Such frightening musical elements never sounded quite as accessible before the Black Dahlia came along (at least not without losing their menace and/or becoming parody). I would hazard a guess that hailing from Detroit has something to do with BDM’s ear for melody. Barry Gordy, your precious juice runs through Trevor Strnad’s “voculars.” (more…)
