Free Swag, The Hook Up
Posted on June 30th, 2009

We here at Metal Injection know times are tough. But we also know that you absolutely NEED to see Marilyn Manson, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Trivium, The Black Dahlia Murder, Killswitch Engage and all the other awesome bands who are playing this summer's Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival. That's why, in these troubled economic times, Metal Injection is hooking up one lucky winner for EACH tour date with a pair of tickets to see the biggest tour of the summer! Are you stoked? We are stoked!
How do you enter? All you have to do is leave a comment copying and pasting the exact tour date you want to go to from the itinerary below (after the jump) and include one sentence with something silly on why you should win. We don't want a life story here, just one sentence, and we know you're broke, so come up with something better! Who is your hook up? Metal Fucking Injection! Tour dates after the jump… (more…)

Dispatches from the Van, Interviews, Top Five

Shadows Fall might bring the metal. They might bring some core too. But, Brian Fair says on tour he mostly brings the classics and instrumental rock to soothe his moshed out soul. After an interview with roving reporter Justina Villanueva, Brian Fair (the dreaded scream machine) discussed what he puts to his ears when he's not on stage or in a recording booth.
Metallica, Master of Puppets

Master of Puppets probably the most perfect record. That one stands the test of time. The first time I heard Metallica was Kill Em All, but Master Of Puppets–by that point I had already been a fan. That was the perfect record. It had the fast crazy song to open it, the 8-minute epic next, by the end there is the half ballad. They were the masters of the half ballad. Sanitarium and One and all those types of songs. And they also had slow dirge-y songs, like Things They Should Not Be. They had everything. They had everything that I liked about metal in one record. It's like goddammit–that's the record that you wanted to write. But, its like shit, they already did it. You can throw [Master Of Puppets] on today and it sounds just as fresh. Some metal records you can hear in history why they are awesome, but now you might be like, eh that didn't really survive. But, that record is always going to survive.

ALICE IN CHAINS finally released their first single today in nearly 14 years, "A Looking In View" and as my good friend Axl Rosenberg put it "Cantrell and company have silenced the naysayers who said it couldn’t be done without Layne Staley, and schooled every Godsmack, every Hurt, every band that’s basically ripped AIC off in the years since their initial demise." Amen! You can download a free MP3 (in exchange for your email address) at Alice In Chains' official website. Consider me interested in hearing new Alice In Chains!

When DARKEST HOUR guitarist Mike Schleibaum contacted us saying he wanted to submit Summer Slaughter tour diaries exclusively to us, how could we be anything but excited about it? Mike didn't disappoint! Along with drummer Ryan Parrish, one of our favorite people ever, the two provide an entertaining look on what life is like on the road with the most extreme tour of the Summer. You can watch the band goofing around with the not-as-serious-offstage Frank Mullen of SUFFOCATION and then see him be very serious on stage a few minutes later. This is quality video! Check it out below and don't you worry, there is plenty more where this came from:

A/V, Blackendfest
Posted on June 29th, 2009
As you may have known, we sent our own Justina Villaneuva on the road with Blackened Fest and there was a giant debacle that resulted in all the support bands dropping off the tour. Justina posted an extensive blog detailing her point of view on what happened that night, and pointed most of the blame at MAYHEM. After the dust settled, and when we had Justina on the Livecast last week, she retracted saying that it was nobody in specific who was at fault, but rather she was the victim of circumstance. Now, the fine folks at HardTimes.ca interviewed MAYHEM frontman Attila Csihar and he gave his perspective. The talk happens within the first seven minutes of the video. Attilla spends the remainder of the interview talking about art, with the most awesome Hungarian drawl ever. Check it out below…

On this edition of the Metal Injection Livecast, we pay homage to some of the famous celebrities that have moved on to a different plane of existence and some that haven't yet but are crashing the party. Additionally, we had our most positive edition of Thrash It or Trash It, where we play some of the unsigned band promos we get and judge them on the air! All that and some bad choices! Here is this week's playlist:
THE ACACIA STRAIN - 3750
LAMB OF GOD – 11th Hour
BEHEMOTH – Demigod
RWAKE – The Finality
WITHERED – Among Sorrow
BENEATH THE MASSACRE – Society's Disposable Son
