GENGHIS TRON, TOMBS, WETNURSE and BLACK ANVIL "Show No Mercy" live footage posted

Posted on April 29th, 2009

One Sunday every month, writer Brandon Stosuy throws together a show in Brooklyn, NY proving metal is still alive and well in New York City (it just seemingly relocated to Williamsburg aka the hipster part of town). A weeks back, on Easter Sunday to be exact, another one of these shows was thrown showing just how strong and diverse the NY metal scene is. There was no band that brought the show down. There were no trends. Just a bunch of people who enjoy playing and experiencing music. Oh, and a bunch of hot chicks too.

Starting off the night was a band that completely blew me away, BLACK ANVIL. Their blackend-thrash was just awesome. We have three live clips, but honestly they do not match the awesomeness the band brought live. Go see this band!
Black Anvil 1 | Black Anvil 2 | Black Anvil 3

Next up was one of New York's finest bands, WETNURSE, providing their jazz-infused metal. This was probably my favorite performance of the night. Two clips:
Wetnurse 1 | Wetnurse Live 2

TOMBS was up next and could be best described in three words: Wall of Noise. I'm not sure how well our mics captured the sound, since it was so dense but here are two clips anyway:
TOMBS 1 | TOMBS 2

To close out the show, electrogrinders GENGHIS TRON brought out the lights! I was glad the band played a few songs from their Cloak of Love EP, which still stands as my favorite Genghis release. Here are the three songs we captured of them:
Board Up The House | Things Don't Look Good | Ride the Steambolt.

If you are in the New York area, there is no reason for you not to attend these shows. There will be another killer Show No Mercy show this Sunday featuring this crazy lineup: A Life Once Lost, Buried Inside, Rosetta, Wetnurse , all for only 12 bucks. Visit the Show No Mercy page for more info.

CD review: KYLESA, "Static Tensions"

Posted on April 29th, 2009

kylesaTheir Georgia home base, crossover appeal, sporadic tempo changes and blend of classic rock, stoner and alternative influences may all scream the name of the band that KYLESA is currently opening for, but in no way is Static Tensions an album you've already heard if you've picked up Crack the Skye. Imagine BARONESS nightmaring about THE MELVINS and you might start to grasp Kylesa's fourth full-length, but the gargantuan riffs and two-fisted drumming aren’t going to leave you much room to analyze while Static Tensions is playing. HULL will rape your ear-pussies

Posted on April 27th, 2009

hull

Full disclosure: We are the best of bros with Brooklyn, NY's HULL, sharing many-a-doobs and RAGGERRRS.

Usually, it's very hard when your friends are in bands, because most of the time the band ranges from shitty to slightly above average (to all my other friends in bands, please don't think this is directed at you, except that one band…) and it's really hard to tell your friends you don't think their band is that great. I simply do not have that problem with HULL. These guys put on a killer show, play ridiculously awesome music and as previously mentioned, are great dudes. What type of music? Epic music duh! The band has been compared to MASTODON, ISIS, NEUROSIS and the like, but I just say they are fucking HULL and you better get with it, before they run you the fuck over. Check out an MP3 below which premiered on BrooklynVegan earlier today (hit the link so they get some love from our stolen mp3 damn it!) The band's debut CD, Sole Lord, will be released May 26th via The End Records. Don't be a jerk, go pick it up!

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER's upcoming DVD, Majesty looks amazing

Posted on April 27th, 2009

Here at the Metal Injection studios, we love a good band DVD. When we found out the Black Dahlia Murder were shooting one last year, we were pumped. These dudes are some of the most fun-loving guys in the scene, always up for a good time. The band has announced it will release a 2-disc DVD, Majesty on May 12th, and I was already pumped but then they put out the trailer (below) and now I am beyond stoked. Check it out:

They are taking MACHINE HEAD and SUICIDE SILENCE with them. Right now, there are only four Canadian dates announced (below) but we have it on good authority that there will be some U.S. dates as well. Holy fuck, thrash tour of the century!

Amon Amarth Brought Horns, Thunder and Thrash Openers to Central New Jersey

Amon Amarth

Amon Amarth

Last night Starland Ballroom lived up to its all ages policy. That is young lads whose heads barely aligned with my hip bone (and I'm 5'2" so that's short) and older folks (some grey topped and others who listened to Black Sabbath when they were kids to piss off THEIR parents). Everyone, however, was there to headbang. Even the drunk girl with an Ed Hardy shirt, jean miniskirt and stiletto sandals (yeah, real classy) who heckled me for not acting like a drunk douchebag (aka her) until I told her to hold my camera bag to see how heavy it was.

A Metal Fest Diary: Metal Injects New England

The Palladium was full even early afternoon Friday

Hey Planet Earth!

My name is Justina and I take pictures of bands. I suck at writing but every once in a while Rob makes me write about my wacky experiences on tour. At the moment, I'm not on tour, but this weekend definitely felt like it was longer than most of the tours I've done. At the same time, it didn't feel long enough. (That's what she said.) In my latest voyage, Rob, Frank, Sean and I went to New England Metal and Hardcore Festival 2009. Because they banned live footage, the guys just did a shitload of interviews, while I did nothing all day took pictures of bands. I included a lot of pictures in this blog so you don't get bored. Some are of your favorite bands ruining lives one decibel at a time and some are of your favorite bands getting interviewed. Enjoy.

Corpse Paint Tutorial

Posted by a Canadian girl who loves Metal and American muscle cars:

How to achieve a black metal corpse paint using acrylic paint.
Done in 30 minutes.
Supply is less than 20$

…And to those 'know-it-all' youtubers who'll complain about 'that' being mainstream, well I did this video because I was receiving a lot of messages about how I did my corpse paint in my other vid. I also noticed that a lot of ppl were messing their CP completly ('those' , are the funny ridiculous ones) and ppl were making fun of them (cauz they ended up looking like KISS, a clown, or …dani filth). So this 'how to' vid gives tricks about how to look 'grim' and to avoid messing ur corpse paint …thats it.

DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN frontman gets some shit off his chest, checks in with band update

Posted on April 21st, 2009

l_a125bbca70df42d6a6a1affa3e307c79

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN's Greg Picuato is never shy about speaking his mind. And his latest blog post is no different. To begin, Greg goes off on our government about taxation and just does not relent. It's a pretty intriging read worth checking out. Since we are a music site, we'll focus mostly on what he said about his band and other side projects:

I did a remix for the band PRONG that's gonna come out on a remix album of theirs called “Power Of The Damned Mixxxer”, check it out when it comes out. I've been writing lyrics furiously for DEP songs, as well as getting going on some non-DEP shit with a totally different vibe, I'll let you know whats coming of that or what form it'll be taking when it gets a little further along in development, but it sounds awesome even in a fairly early stage. The big news though is that the new DEP is taking on the appearance of pure ferocity, and we still have 'til July 20th before we go into the studio to record. I imagine Dillinger as being like Gozer at the end of Ghostbusters. We kinda don't know what our album is gonna be like going into the writing process, and then our writing progresses, and its kinda like that part when she says “choose your destructor” and then it manifested itself as the marshmallow man…..except we are manifesting as a giant tsunami of asskicking. We have a press release about to come out, all about our new album, complete with title and record label and other stuff, coming out any day now, so be on the lookout over at our myspace page and on any other music news site that covers badassery. Ben is twittering away about our writing progress over on our official twitter, twitter.com/dillingerescpln, and I just signed up twitter.com/gregpuciato before some weirdo could get it first and start faking the funk. I haven't posted anything yet, but its inevitable that one day I might, so sign up if you are into reading COOL SHIT. One day I'll be in your hood and we'll organize a barbecue or something over the twitter. When we're on tour and then later when we're in the studio I'll probably twitter updates and cool shit on the daily.

I also started writing a couple of books after being inspired by Eugene from Oxbow to get off my ass about it, the topics of which are top secret but will be revealed in due time. I'll keep you guys informed! Oh yeah….yesterday I did some background vocals on a new Everytime I Die song, I felt super fresh and it sounded absolutely killer and made me itchy for recording some scathing new DEP vocals with the mighty Steve Evetts in July and August!!!!

If you haven't had enough of Greg for today, check out this interview we did right as Ire Works came out where he talked unfiltered about many topics.

METAL UP YOUR ASS: Metal Heads Are Everywhere I Go

Posted on April 16th, 2009

At the Metal Injection Blog Factory, we are all preparing for our road trip to Worcester for the annual NEW ENGLAND METAL AND HARDCORE FESTIVAL. And by preparing, I mean doing mediocre research to interview bands and downloading old school hip hop to blast at 3am to piss of Rob and Frank. Oh, and getting my car checked out to make sure we have a smooth ride (yes, I know that is what she said). So at about 2pm I went to the local Express Lube place down the street from me. After telling the dude who was checking my car that I was going on a long trip and just wanted to make sure everything was safe to go, he confesses that he's a HUGE Sabbath and Venom fan. So I let him in on the new Heaven and Hell album and charges me $0. I win. Now you can read all the news you have missed and catch up on who is releasing new tunes. Click away. Click away.

So secret shows are never really secret, unless–no its just never really a secret anymore. And in saying so, I'm going to blab about a secret show in Albuquerque. Get a preview of that show here.

Speaking of cool tour packages, every so often two tours are simultaneously traveling the U.S. And every not so often they cross the same city/venue on the same day. If you live in the Detroit area, you are one lucky metal head.

If you life in Philly or St. Paul you can meet Lamb of God.

Bodom's new setlist is as follows: 'Silent Night, Bodom Night', 'Hellhounds On My Trail', 'Living Dead Beat', 'Angels Don't Kill', 'COD / BBQ', 'In Your Face', 'Blooddrunk', 'Downfall'.

There is NO group therapy in this doc. NOCAREEVER! Sike. I can't not dig that they included Metallica's Moscow footage, but it does suck that there was barely a mention of the bassist situation. It goes from Burton to Newsted to Trujillo in a breathe, if that.
