Go See This Fucking Band

SOILWORK, DARKANE and WARBRINGER obliterate NYC, setlist available

In what will stand as one of the year's best tour packages, SOILWORK, DARKANE, WARBRINGER and SWALLOW THE SUN invaded the Highline Ballroom for a post-St. Valentine's Day asskicker, an excuse to blitz area headbangers with an overdose of melodic death metal and treat to those of us who didn't have to get up early for President's Day.

For full tracklisting and details about the game, check out our previous coverage.

Monday Wake Up Call

Start your week with a little MESSSHHUUUGGGGAAAAAHHHHH!!!1!1

Meshuggah - NoneWhat better way to begin your week than with a little MESHUGGAAAHHH. Here at the Metal Injection Studios, we still can't get over the awesome Meshuggah/Cynic/The Faceless show we saw last week, so all three bands are currently in our rotation. I thought I'd upload a track from my favorite Meshuggah release, the None EP. What I love about this EP is its quick and to the point: 5 tracks, 33 minutes, all awesome all the time! Sickening, the second track on the CD definitely stands as my favorite. Hopefully, it will start your week on the right (sixteenth) note.

Metal Injection Livecast #10 – w/Special Guest THOR SHREDSTEEN

Metal Injection Livecast returns with a very special 10th edition of the show. The night begins with a very important news conference regarding Rob's drug failure. Also, Rob and Noa talk about their experience at a Meshuggah/Cynic/The Faceless show the previous night. We then troll the Metal Injection forums for unsigned bands in a segment called Thrash It or Trash It. Finally, for this special occasion, we have a huge guest lined up in guitar virtuoso THOR SHREDSTEEN in the studio answering fan questions. Check out this week's playlist:

CYNIC – Evolutionary Sleeper

A/V Roundup: Winds of Plague, Obscura, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Mastodon

Above you will see the new WINDS OF PLAGUE video, Anthems of Apocalypse. Who needs narrative in a video when you can just use 300 footage? I don't know how I feel about that but hey, the video cost them $3 to make and in this economy, maybe that isn't such a bad decision.

Attention: Necrophagist fanboys: Check out OBSCRUA! The band features former drummer Hannes Grossmann and Christian Muenzner. Their new CD, Cosmogenesis, even features an appearance by the legendary Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, SPASTIC INK, BLOTTED SCIENCE). You can hear the band's entire full-length ObscuraCosmoGenesis.com.

Oh fuck yes! AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED has posted a new song, "Agorapocalypse Now", on the band's MySpace page. Check it out and headbang till your head falls off!

More footage of MASTODON recording Crack The Skye has been posted on Headbangers Blog. This clip deals with Brent getting beat up at the VMAs last year.

MESHUGGAH, CYNIC and THE FACELESS destroyed last night

cynic

Last night, the entire Metal Injection crew came out for what may end up being the biggest show of 2009: Meshuggah, Cynic and The Faceless. It was truly place to be. Spotted in the crowd were members of GOD FORBID, A LIFE ONCE LOST and SUICIDE SILENCE. Everybody was there to see this killer lineup. (more…)

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE added to this summer's Rockstar Mayhem Festival

killswitchengage-toddpollock-023Wow, as if the lineup for Mayhem Fest was not strong enough, it has just been announced that Killswitch Engage have been added to the main stage lineup of pretty much the biggest metal summer festival around at the moment.

They join SLAYER, MARILYN MANSON, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE on the main stage. The second stage bands on this killer tour are CANNIBAL CORPSE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, JOB FOR A COWBOY, BEHEMOTH, WHITECHAPEL, TRIVIUM, ALL THAT REMAINS and GOD FORBID. Wow. That is pretty much every modern metal band in America (minus a few). I don't see how anybody can come close to touching this lineup. For all the tour dates, click here.

GWAR reveal tour dates with CATTLE DECAPITATION, PRIESTESS

It can't be easy to open for one of the most notorious live bands in the world and to put up with their bloodthirsty fanbase, but deathgrinders CATTLE DECAPITATION and retro-rockers PRIESTESS both think they're up for the task. GWAR is taking both bands out on their upcoming jaunt, where we're sure to see what happens when a band that writes about killing humans (and has an awesome new album) meets a band that dismembers people onstage. Dates and our ODERUS URUNGUS interview (from the set of the "School's Out" video) are after the jump. (more…)

CD review: CANNIBAL CORPSE, "Evisceration Plague"

evisceration_plagueLike any movie starring Freddy Krueger, CANNIBAL CORPSE are almost insusceptible to evaluation. Anybody who likes Cannibal Corpse is going to enjoy Evisceration Plague, the band’s eleventh full-length offering, and the rest of the world will know to look elsewhere. Really the only way to rate a new Cannibal Corpse CD is by comparing it to the rest of their output, and on that scale, Evisceration Plague is a very good album. (more…)

A LIFE ONCE LOST writing new music

I'm not sure how I missed this a few weeks ago, but A Life Once Lost are writing a new album. They issued the following update:

"We have been holed up in Freehold, NJ for the last two months starting to put together our next album. The vibe of this stuff is more of a throwback for us. We have come up with some seriously mind bending riffs and it feels really good so far. The recording is still a ways off as we are only a few tracks in, but expect nothing but a sick groove metal record. We will keep you guys informed on whats up and start filming some stuff to throw on our Youtube page. Get stoked for later 2009!"

It's no secret that ALOL are one of my favorite bands out today, so I'm definitely excited about this news. I doubt they will disappoint. Check out our copious amounts of ALOL footage to get you hyped up.

Why am I writing about the Jonas Brothers?

No, I haven't gone crazy or "sold out." Just bear with me here. The Jonas Brothers were the musical guest on SNL this weekend and during the digital short, Andy Samberg tried to get to the bottom of their hair metal past. Check out this funny sketch:
