February, 2009 Archive
In what will stand as one of the year's best tour packages, SOILWORK, DARKANE, WARBRINGER and SWALLOW THE SUN invaded the Highline Ballroom for a post-St. Valentine's Day asskicker, an excuse to blitz area headbangers with an overdose of melodic death metal and treat to those of us who didn't have to get up early for President's Day.
Above you will find official screen shots of King Diamond and Lemmy from Motorhead as playable characters in the upcoming Guitar Hero: Metallica release. Both artists will appear during their respective songs. You can sing as each of them (or in Lemmy's case play along on bass) or just rock along side them. For full tracklisting and details about the game, check out our previous coverage.
What better way to begin your week than with a little MESHUGGAAAHHH. Here at the Metal Injection Studios, we still can't get over the awesome Meshuggah/Cynic/The Faceless show we saw last week, so all three bands are currently in our rotation. I thought I'd upload a track from my favorite Meshuggah release, the None EP. What I love about this EP is its quick and to the point: 5 tracks, 33 minutes, all awesome all the time! Sickening, the second track on the CD definitely stands as my favorite. Hopefully, it will start your week on the right (sixteenth) note.
Metal Injection Livecast returns with a very special 10th edition of the show. The night begins with a very important news conference regarding Rob's drug failure. Also, Rob and Noa talk about their experience at a Meshuggah/Cynic/The Faceless show the previous night. We then troll the Metal Injection forums for unsigned bands in a segment called Thrash It or Trash It. Finally, for this special occasion, we have a huge guest lined up in guitar virtuoso THOR SHREDSTEEN in the studio answering fan questions. Check out this week's playlist:
CYNIC – Evolutionary Sleeper
THE FACELESS – Xenochrist
SOILWORK – Asylum Dance
MESHUGGAH – Bleed
If any of the new songs (such as this one or this one) didn't already convince you that DAATH's new album is going to rip 2009 into scraps, check out the indisputably metal cover art and tracklist for The Concealers, the Georgia-based headbangers' upcoming release. The album hits stores April 21st, and will hopefully come with the announcement of a US tour in the near future…

02. Self Corruption Manifesto
03. The Worthless
04. The Unbinding Truth
06. Wilting On The Vine
07. Translucent Potency
08. Day Of Endless Light

Above you will see the new WINDS OF PLAGUE video, Anthems of Apocalypse. Who needs narrative in a video when you can just use 300 footage? I don't know how I feel about that but hey, the video cost them $3 to make and in this economy, maybe that isn't such a bad decision.
Attention: Necrophagist fanboys: Check out OBSCRUA! The band features former drummer Hannes Grossmann and Christian Muenzner. Their new CD, Cosmogenesis, even features an appearance by the legendary Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, SPASTIC INK, BLOTTED SCIENCE). You can hear the band's entire full-length ObscuraCosmoGenesis.com.
Oh fuck yes! AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED has posted a new song, "Agorapocalypse Now", on the band's MySpace page. Check it out and headbang till your head falls off!
Last night, the entire Metal Injection crew came out for what may end up being the biggest show of 2009: Meshuggah, Cynic and The Faceless. It was truly place to be. Spotted in the crowd were members of GOD FORBID, A LIFE ONCE LOST and SUICIDE SILENCE. Everybody was there to see this killer lineup. (more…)
Ok, so the headline is a liiiitle misleading. But, there really is no need to have much text to support the above image. It pretty much speaks for itself. Thanks, MetalSucks.
Wow, as if the lineup for Mayhem Fest was not strong enough, it has just been announced that Killswitch Engage have been added to the main stage lineup of pretty much the biggest metal summer festival around at the moment.
They join SLAYER, MARILYN MANSON, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE on the main stage. The second stage bands on this killer tour are CANNIBAL CORPSE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, JOB FOR A COWBOY, BEHEMOTH, WHITECHAPEL, TRIVIUM, ALL THAT REMAINS and GOD FORBID. Wow. That is pretty much every modern metal band in America (minus a few). I don't see how anybody can come close to touching this lineup. For all the tour dates, click here.
Richmond, VA metal masters LAMB OF GOD are now streaming their entire new CD, Wrath on their MySpace page. Head over, have a listen and tell us what you think:
It can't be easy to open for one of the most notorious live bands in the world and to put up with their bloodthirsty fanbase, but deathgrinders CATTLE DECAPITATION and retro-rockers PRIESTESS both think they're up for the task. GWAR is taking both bands out on their upcoming jaunt, where we're sure to see what happens when a band that writes about killing humans (and has an awesome new album) meets a band that dismembers people onstage. Dates and our ODERUS URUNGUS interview (from the set of the "School's Out" video) are after the jump. (more…)
Like any movie starring Freddy Krueger, CANNIBAL CORPSE are almost insusceptible to evaluation. Anybody who likes Cannibal Corpse is going to enjoy Evisceration Plague, the band’s eleventh full-length offering, and the rest of the world will know to look elsewhere. Really the only way to rate a new Cannibal Corpse CD is by comparing it to the rest of their output, and on that scale, Evisceration Plague is a very good album. (more…)
I'm not sure how I missed this a few weeks ago, but A Life Once Lost are writing a new album. They issued the following update:
"We have been holed up in Freehold, NJ for the last two months starting to put together our next album. The vibe of this stuff is more of a throwback for us. We have come up with some seriously mind bending riffs and it feels really good so far. The recording is still a ways off as we are only a few tracks in, but expect nothing but a sick groove metal record. We will keep you guys informed on whats up and start filming some stuff to throw on our Youtube page. Get stoked for later 2009!"
It's no secret that ALOL are one of my favorite bands out today, so I'm definitely excited about this news. I doubt they will disappoint. Check out our copious amounts of ALOL footage to get you hyped up.
Having Presidents Day off makes Tuesday feel like Monday. On the plus side, only a four day work week and I get to see Meshuggah/Cynic/The Faceless on Thursday! Anyway here is a lil' sumthin to get you going today:
In the mood for some sludgy post-metal? You can hear TOMBS' upcoming release Winter Hours in its entirety over at WinterHours.info.
Not to be outdone, ambient rockers ZOMBI are also streaming their entire new CD, Spiritual Animal over at spirit-animal.info
The first video journal of the recording process of BURNT BY THE SUN's final release, Heart of Darkness can be seen here. I am really pumped for this release.
No, I haven't gone crazy or "sold out." Just bear with me here. The Jonas Brothers were the musical guest on SNL this weekend and during the digital short, Andy Samberg tried to get to the bottom of their hair metal past. Check out this funny sketch:
