As you may have heard, Scion Rock Fest is this Saturday. This was a line-up too good to miss! Unfortunately, the rest of the Metal Injection crew had other plans so I (Rob) am flying solo and there is no video allowed. But, in the spirit of this new realm of the internets called Twitter, I have decided to "live-tweet" my experience there. You can see my 10 most recent tweets below, or head over the the Metal Injection Twitter page to follow us and keep up with my updates all weekend.
Due to Rob flocking to Atlanta, GA and the rest of the Livecast crew on a massive coke binge, there will be no new Metal Injection Livecast this week. Luckily, before going on said coke binge, Noa managed to edit some of our favorite bits from our 10 week history so you don't miss us too much, and can catch up on some of the hilarity. Join us as we hear from some of our favorite guests including Patrick Swayze, JCVD, Dracula, Thor Shredsteen, George W Bush, Christian Bale and more. We will be back next Friday with an all-new episode. See you next week!
Yes, YES and YES!! Protest the Hero have announced they are hitting the road for a headlining run. I am super stoked for this as I keep missing those shred-masters. The band will be taking out Misery Signals, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Scale the Summit and Fall From Grace but the lineup for each show doesn't necessarily include all those bands.
That's a pretty stacked lineup as is, but I am completely sold on just seeing Protest the Hero. If you haven't checked out PTH, maybe these videos can help you familiarize yourself in time for this tour. Full dates after the jump… (more…)
British guitar heroes DRAGONFORCE are coming back to the U.S. for a month long tour. As a way of saying thanks to the fans for supporting their latest release, Ultra Beatdown, the band is offering low price tickets (in some cases as low as 15 bucks) for advanced sales.
Openers haven't yet been announced. Full tour dates and an interview we conducted with guitarist Sam Trothman at last year's Mayhem Fest after the jump… (more…)

The last time NJ thrashers GOD FORBID checked in with a new album, it precisely the huge step forward that only a few bands ever get–a bold and kickass record that distinguished God Forbid from every dime a dozen neo-thrash act and catapulted them into the elite of 21st century metal bands. Epic, conceptual, song-driven and carrying itself out onstage, Constitution of Treason had "definitive statement" written all over it. Now Earthsblood, the band's years-in-the-making follow-up, does all it can to ensure that the last time around wasn't the band's masterpiece. (more…)
A few years ago, we were at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and we were waiting for some main stage act to play that I wasn't exactly super excited to see. All of the sudden a band came on who was definitely not the band we were expected and shredded their way into our hearts. That band was the now defunct Washington DC act REFLUX. They simply destroyed the stage. After then, I was dying to see this band come back on a tour but it never seemed to happen and the band fizzled away. Then, I got a press release in my inbox with some super exciting news: the (eight-string) gutiarist of that band, Tosin Abasi has started a new project called ANIMALS AS LEADERS. I urge you to check out the track that has been posted on the official band Myspace page immediately to have your ears cum from all the br00talness!
We here at Metal Injection have enjoyed a longtime love affair with the French metal scene. Rob & the boys are all about Gorod and Gojiiiraaaaaa, and have given them lots of love on this site (see here, here, and here). Those bands are undeniably rad, but they call me Grim Kim for a reason – allow me to introduce you to one of my favorite bands, (French or otherwise) – BLUT AUS NORD.
Norway, Sweden, Finland, Eastern Europe and South America have long been the dark Meccas of black metal, but the USA, Japan, and France in particular are steadily creeping up to stake their claims for global supremacy. Simply put, French black metal rules. I've been jocking Deathspell Omega, Hell Militia, Blut Aus Nord, Peste Noire, and the Black Legions since I was just a little tyke with a Hellhammer backpatch. Consistently underrated and until recent times, more or less ignored by the majority of American metalheads, the French scene has given rise to some of the most challenging, forward-thinking, ass-kicking black metal of the past decade, and shows no signs of slowing down. We are getting pretty pumped up for PaganFest II (in case you haven't heard, it features KORPIKLAANI, PRIMORDIAL, MOONSORROW, BLACKGUARD and SWASHBUCKLE. Full details here.) This is the type of event that you cannot attend sober. The fine people at UrbanTrend feel your pain and have come up with the extremely useful Viking Horn Beer Bong (below). No price is listed yet, but this will certainly help you pillage the mosh pits this Spring.
Weeks after we sent Metal Misha and Sinister Sasha a new webcam to shoot episodes of their glorious series, the Moscow Metal Minute, they managed to put down the vodka and bong for a few minutes to be coherent enough so that they could review a few videos. Find out what your favorite Soviet comrads think as they watch videos from Megadeth, Bullet For My Valentine and Amon Amarth.
Former NINE INCH NAILS (and a shit ton of other bands) drummer Josh Freese has a new solo record titled Since 1972 coming out. In the same vein as his former boss, Trent Reznor, Freese has decided to go the online pay as much as you want route, except with a twist, the more you pay, the crazier your package is. When we say crazy we mean things like he'll write an entire EP about you and put it on iTunes or you can go mini-golfing with him and Maynard. The above video should help explain things and full details about the packages after the jump. (more…)
In 199,5 Florida-based death metal legends Morbid Angel, celebrated the release of their 4th (letter D) studio album "Domination" to a world of criticism. Original fans of the first few records thought it was more "sludge" than death metal, while those into the newly developing sludge movement thought the record was still too "death" metal for their tastes. Despite open remarks concerning "Domination", the LP is still arguably one of the greatest achievements of 90's American death metal I've ever heard.
One of the coolest things I remember about this particular LP was the attempt to include a slime pack with each disc. This of course never happened once the slime substance began spilling and was proven to be toxic. They later released initial copies in green jewel cases (not eco friendly) for a "PG" effect of the same theme.
Noted as "The #1 Death Metal Guitarist Ever" by Decibel Magazine, Trey Azagthoth lead the band into mainstream attention with this video for "Where The Slime Live".
Coming off one of 2008's best albums and a fistfight-inspired lineup change, ultra-melodic stoner-metal renovators TORCHE are back on the road with indie-prog vets DREDG tagging along. There's still no new guitarist listed on Torche's social networking page, but whether you already know how awesome this band is or have been meaning to check them out, you owe it to yourself to catch this tour.

For every band that carries on past their prime years to the point of self-parody, there's a barely noticeable, ultra-rare breed who split up at the height of their greatness. For the scarce bands that go out on top, there are even fewer who split up before they reach their potential, leaving the rest of us to wonder what could have been while raising horns to the one or two albums that they left us. This brings us to SIKTH.
Conceived in the same kingdom that brewed IRON MAIDEN and NAPALM DEATH, SikTh blended the former's gradiosity and progressive edge with the latter's abrasivenesses and hectic shifts. But from the first listen, SikTh's "Death of a Dead Day" sounds like it came from a universe where matchcore bands gave their hooks room to breathe, progressive bands didn't get bogged down with proficiency and death metal bands focused on clean, melodic songs more than speed. Sure, all of that happens sometimes, but how often do you hear it all on the same record? (more…)
In what will stand as one of the year's best tour packages, SOILWORK, DARKANE, WARBRINGER and SWALLOW THE SUN invaded the Highline Ballroom for a post-St. Valentine's Day asskicker, an excuse to blitz area headbangers with an overdose of melodic death metal and treat to those of us who didn't have to get up early for President's Day.
Above you will find official screen shots of King Diamond and Lemmy from Motorhead as playable characters in the upcoming Guitar Hero: Metallica release. Both artists will appear during their respective songs. You can sing as each of them (or in Lemmy's case play along on bass) or just rock along side them. For full tracklisting and details about the game, check out our previous coverage.
What better way to begin your week than with a little MESHUGGAAAHHH. Here at the Metal Injection Studios, we still can't get over the awesome Meshuggah/Cynic/The Faceless show we saw last week, so all three bands are currently in our rotation. I thought I'd upload a track from my favorite Meshuggah release, the None EP. What I love about this EP is its quick and to the point: 5 tracks, 33 minutes, all awesome all the time! Sickening, the second track on the CD definitely stands as my favorite. Hopefully, it will start your week on the right (sixteenth) note.
